Can you book another screening? Perhaps through the sexual health clinic, if you aren't due a routine one.

Springadorable · 27/06/2024 20:53

Well you definitely need to go back to the GP and get this checked out. Best of luck x

Safa2 · 27/06/2024 20:58

@Mairzydotes Can the gum clinic do a test if I’m not due 1.. my next one is may next year and I dunno if I wana wait that long

For peace of mind I would go to your GP and see if you can be referred for a biopsy. They can find out exactly what's going on for you.

Safa2 · 27/06/2024 22:23

Good idea I didn’t think of that x I’m gona do that tomorrow @TheDogsMother

Definitely go to your gp, and request an urgent referral.

TheDogsMother · 27/06/2024 22:27

Don't let them fob you off @Safa2 The ongoing bleeding should be enough to get you referred. I'm sure it's nothing sinister but it's far better to understand what's going on. Good luck.

MajorMischa · 27/06/2024 22:31

Bleeding and pelvic pain is much more likely to be something far less severe than cancer. Fibroids come to mind. Or endo. Or lots of other things.
But they all benefit from a diagnosis. Go see GP.

SnakesAndArrows · 27/06/2024 22:31

A smear test (test for HPV) is not what you need. You have symptoms, so you need to see your GP. There are other possible causes, so don’t jump to the worst conclusion.

I never want a smear ever again and I’m prepared to tell who ever: stop sending scare mongering to my home.

I won’t be opening my vagina wide.
from someone who’s family wanted to convince a smear saved life when actually it was to do with the bowel.

DaisyCat33 · 28/06/2024 00:08

Very unlikely. I've had bleeding between periods for years, had every test imaginable and it's just "a hormonal imbalance" and no one really knows

I doubt they'll give you another smear, they wouldn't give me one when I wasn't due

It could be loads of other things - endometriosis, fibroids, infection, ovarian cysts, PCOS, or like me just a hormonal imbalance (how old are you?)

They did when I asked due to irregular bleeding.

They also did a full sti screen and took a blood test. All came back fine.

I got diagnosed yesterday via scan for endometriosis and adenomyosis

But can endometriosis and adnimyosis cause such long periods

The short answer is yes. It can cause all sorts of periods irregularities.

That's your look out.

Doesn't help the OP who is being proactive about her health.

Yes definitely. It's one of the main causes of long periods and excessive bleeding. Sorry to hear about your diagnosis, but glad you have a reason for your issues now.

How old were you when you had spotting? This is happening to me. I know I have a cervical polyp and uterine fibroid but this month, spotting for 3 days not due on for another 6 days and that’s a 21 day cycle. My cycles are shorter than ever these days. I’m 46 nearly 47.

really worried. Every time I go loo, brown or pink red discharge

Spotting with a cervical polyp is not uncommon - it happened to me. Cycles often shorten during perimenopause.

Go get yourself checked out. I had a scan which showed that I had developed vaginal polyps in addition to the cervical polyp.

Short version: in the end, I was given a D&C and all the polyps removed - it turned out that I had some in the uterus too and they were all removed. They also did a biopsy, I believe.

I later had another episode of spotting. It turned out to be caused by my HRT. (Nevertheless, I finished up getting three uterine biopsies to make sure.)

I recall getting some spotting in my late 40s and 50s from the cervical polyp. Also had problems with short cycles and heavier periods. The increased polyps were found and removed in my early 60s.

I'm now 65 and had my 2nd and 3rd biopsies this year. My HRT was changed last year, after I had the first biopsy.

ETA Please do go and get checked out. One of the reasons that I didn't get checked out earlier is that I was a carer and had no time for myself.

Polyps, whilst they can bleed wouldn’t cause spotting for days on end and discharge. I haven’t had this till now, I’ve known about the cervical polyp over. A year.

You can start on tranexamic acid to help with the heavy bleeding, it often reduces them a lot and then look into the mirena coil as well. Just make sure when you get it inserted you take paracetamol and ibuprofen 1h before, get licodaine injected back into the cervix, and also numbing gel. It will thin your uterus lining and then reduce the thickness and the bleeding from there. So I'd look into both of them for the bleeding side of things.

I recall that the spotting got worse over time and there was some discharge. However, you really do need to go and get yourself checked out.
