Perimenopause symptom or thrush?

I'm 52 and am in perimenopause as my periods have been erratic for about 3 years. Sometimes I get vulval burning and soreness that can go on for several days. I have no itching, thick discharge, redness or swelling. It all looks like normal, just feels seriously sore!

My instinct is that it must be thrush, but do other women in perimenopause experience this? I'm frightened to have sex in case I pass infection to my partner, so I treat it as if it's thrush to be on the safe side, even though soreness/burning is the only symptom.

I have used dr. Wolf’s vaginal in 2021 ages before I asked Colchester hospital to run a pre meno pause test. They haven’t got answers why I bleed from vagina after bowel motions

it is like hilarious to Suffolk residents 🤬 or certainly feels that way.

Likely to be caused by a lack of oestrogen so, until you replace this, any other topical creams etc will only provide temporary relief

You could treat for thrush and see how you go but I would either see your doctor about prescribing some Ovestin or buy it privately online yourself. Or try Gina

They're just tiny doses but they make all the difference .. the last thing you want is atrophy so do look into an oestrogen cream to avoid this happening as far as is possible

And yes - I'm 52 and have had it. Drove me half mad as I just couldn't understand what it was - never had it before in my life

It was a penny dropping moment when I realised it was a lack of oestrogen causing it. All back to normal now with just using a little bit of the cream a few times a week

I thought I had thrush with exactly these symptoms, very sore but no discharge. My G.P was bloody useless, did an internal etc but no answer. I took myself to the Sexual Health Clinic in desperation, thinking they treat all sorts so must know what’s wrong with my fru fru. It turned out I had vaginal atrophy, quite bad as well, gawd knows why my G. P couldn’t identify this. The estrogen vaginal tablets just weren’t enough for me, so I had a patch with separate progesterone, now I’m moist again without the pain and can wee in peace without swearing.

You need to do a test at the doctors to be sure really...
But for me thrush is just burning and soreness , rarely the itching and havent seen the discharge EVER yet that they talk about even tho ive had thrush so many times

I attended for coil removal to be told that couldn’t be done due to the vaginal skin in a dry mess. I imagine my blood is coming out pinky coloured as has few places to go. I’m not buying any more creams lotions and potions and rang up the GP surgery to talk to someone.

I was told today the fibroid might be dealt with on way out of coil. I remain sceptical. If no one else dealt with a fibroid on way in I’d seriously doubt it now.
