Mild dyskaryosis

Had a smear last week and relieved the results and colposcopy referral in the post today.

I'm trying to be calm, cool and rational about it.

Can you tell me if your experiences with mild dyskaryosis, what happened at the colposcopy and the outcome.

I had this many years ago. The cells were removed and then follow up smears were all normal. I can't remember how long I had more regular smears but it was all fine.
I did feel a bit wobbly after the procedure so make sure you don't have much planned afterwards. Might just have been me though. It wasn't painful really and was very quick.

I should add I also have HPV if that changes things.

They will most likely use LLETZ to remove the cells. I have had it 3 times. Then I had 6 monthly smears for 2 years and yearly smears for 10 years.

If you have been graded as CIN 1 they may just watch and wait. CIN 2 AND CIN 3 they tend to treat straight away.

I’ve just had this OP - I was completely freaked out when I first got the letter, however the process was very reassuring. After the colposcopy (just like a longer smear test), they sent a sample off for biopsy and it came back as just virus, not even dyskarrosis. The nurse said that the testing is more sophisticated with biopsy so sometimes that happens! Now I’m on a 3 yr recall for my next smear.

There’s nothing to worry about at all, thank heavens we have smear tests and even if it does come back as a pre cancerous cell change, the treatment for it is simple. So just trust the doctors and you’ve nothing to worry about!

I had severe dyskariosis cin 3 and sobbed as thought the worst. I had a colposcopy and a LLETZ procedure. The dr and nurses couldn’t have been nicer. It’s an odd feeling but not painful. Bit like period cramps? Nothing awful. Then I had repeat smears at 6 months and 1 year. Then I fell pregnant so had 2 weekly vaginal uss to check the length of my cervix (I think from 20 weeks). But delivered at full term with no issues. Back to normal smears now with no issues and it’s been 6 years. Best of luck lovey.

Hi Op, try not to worry. I've just been through this as my smear came back positive for HPV and severe dyskaryosis. I went in for the colposcopy where they took a biospy. The nurses were absolutely lovely and it's very similar to a smear. No pain but it feels a weird. My results from the biospy came back as CIN2 so I went back for the LLETZ treatment which again was almost the same as the colposcopy but it felt slightly warm inside. I'm just awaiting my results back from the LLETZ to confirm they removed all the cells and I've been told I'll be invited back for another smear in 6 months just to check the HPV hasn't returned. Its so hard not to think the worse when you get that letter but the treatment (if you need it) is there to nip anything in the bud.
