Anyone had a biopsy for breast cyst?

Just wondering how common this is and what people's results were?

At my breast clinic app today I was fully expecting to be told it was fine. But the nurse said the cyst was "thick" and couldn't be drained so had a biopsy. She said she thought it was a galactocele (dried milk in the cyst) as I have a 1 year old.

However I told the consultant I didn't think it could be that as I didn't BF and his response was "I concur". He was vague and didn't say anything other than "I don't know what it is".

Anyone else had a cyst biopsied? I realise every case is different but feeling a bit numb about it all.

I had the same, cyst didn't aspirate so they sent it off, what little they got out of it. I was 10 months post partum and also didn't breastfeed. And it came back as milk.

Oh thank you. That makes me feel so much better. Knowing that it still is a possibility, thank you! It's so stressful!

I've had biopsy on a lump I found, it was a fibroadenoma. In my case they decided to remove it even though it was benign as I've got family history of breast cancer.

Did they say it was a form of cyst? I think that's what threw me, as a hardened cyst is more rare. Glad yours was okay.

I had a papilloma.

Try not to worry (I know it's hard) as there are seemingly several things it might be that aren't cancer.

Also, I would add that those who have been diagnosed with cancer were told almost certainly from a scan.

They said they were sure the cyst would be milk as that's what it looked like. And I said, even though I didn't breast feed and she said yes because your milk still comes in.

Yes I did, and in my case it was a galactocele. They couldn’t tell from feeling it though. In my case when they stuck the needle in it ‘popped’ and once the incision healed it had gone. There’s all sort of lumps and bumps in breast tissue so please try not to worry.

Yes - two cysts biopsied for this reason. Both benign. Good luck OP x

After being referred to the clinic for a breast lump whilst still breast feeding, the GP and consultant/surgeon were vocal about it being BF/milk related but thankfully followed every procedure anyway to check. As soon as they did the ultrasound, I was taken for a mammogram, and then back to ultrasound for the biopsy. I was told before I left the clinic that day it was cancer, I just had to wait for the biopsy to come back to tell me which type. It's much more likely to be harmless than cancer. Hopefully you'll get good news soon.
