Endometrial scan help - anyone understand the fancy words?

Hi Guys
I have had two transvaginal scans now, roughly a year apart because of excruciating peri menopausal monthly bleeds (on HRT) and very heavy flow.

I have a non urgent referral for September but wondered if anyone else had ever seen and understood/have talked through their results. Or - even better- if there are any radiologists about.

It says:

The uterus had heterogenous echotexture and measured 86 x 46 x 62mm.
No fibroids or polyps were seen.
The endometrial thickness = 9.6mm. The endometrium was ill-defined and
contained minimal internal vascularity.
Right ovarian volume = 1.3ml.
Left ovarian volume = 1.3ml.

Obviously, I can Google the terms but don't fully understand the explanations.

If anyone has any insights, I'd be grateful!

Hi OP.

I am on HRT and had a hysteroscopy and TVS privately a few months ago as I had breakthrough bleeding with the mirena coil.

In my hysteroscopy I had the full lining removed in a D&C. Consultant brought photos to show me in recovery, lots of fluffy patches which were of concern to him. Biopsy was all fine though. And FWIW I wasn't remotely worried.

My endometrial thickness was 6mm and on HRT and in peri meno, that was too thick and consultant not happy. I would expect that they'd suggest a hysteroscopy at yoir thickness of 9.6mm. And INSIST on a general anaesthetic if they do, or go private if you have cover.

I would also be concerned at 'ill defined', again I'd expect a hysteroscopy. (my fluffy bits were ill defined).

I am not an expert, I am only recounting my own experience. Good luck op.

Ps. Did the person who did the ultrasound not tell you anything? I find they always talk me through it when I have one. And turn the screen so I can see what they see.

No, they never tell you anything! Maybe because yours was private?

Apparently 9.6 is fine in HRT - a 'bit on the thick side' . I asked for blood tests to be sent to me and they sent me this, too- I'd never read or heard the ill defined bit before.

Hi @thaneofglamour that's rubbish!

Are you due a follow up with a gynae to review the results?

thaneofglamour · 11/06/2024 17:38

Mid September.

Last time they decided not to do a hysteroscopy because the GP incorrectly labelled me as post menopausal and not on HRT.

Well I suppose they have looked at the results and would bring you in sooner if they need to.

But, if you could afford to see the gynae privately it might be worth the fee. They might refer you back onto their NHS list for any procedure.

Droolylabradors · 11/06/2024 17:40

My gynae is £250 if paying.

Yes, one near me is £250 to just for the consultation.
