I know I have previously posted something similar, but I have spent all day sitting here shaking worry about how bad it’s going to be after I take the 4 tablets, most
ofnthe stories I have read, but a few said it’s as bad if not worse than labour pain, people passing out with pain, throwing up and unable to move for hours upon hours, I don’t know who to turn to to try and help with this anxiety

So they called me back and said they will book me a vacuum one, sorry
dont know name, not sure Is this one unless painful 😣 however the procedure
itself is 5-10 minutes of pain rather than like 6 hours of labour pain as people described at Home with no reassurance so in he ofted for this, I understand they put a injection into womb/cervix to help with them pain, which I did have in cervix for lletz and was painless, just not sure if that’s enough pain relief as I have heard
its agony 😭 but can’t be worse than labour pain and only for 5-10 mins surely 😳

OP I had surgical and it was a doddle. No pain, if anything I hardly bled and I was worried for a couple of weeks they hadn't actually done it!

mummyh2016 · 05/06/2024 13:57

Sorry doddle was probably the wrong word. It was straight forward though, no pain and no issues.

Lulabella22 · 05/06/2024 14:03

It's called an MVA, you'll feel a little crampy at certain points in the procedure but nothing more than that. I was given gas and air to help. I also had a diclofenic suppository beforehand. The nurses will reassure you and make sure you are ok. You'll be asked to stay for a little while after just to monitor any bleeding. Good luck x

Scribbless99 · 05/06/2024 14:06

So I really hoped I would be offered gas and air but because I don’t get it in a hospital
its a bpas clinic I think
im only
offered standard stuff, although would
of 100 percent felt better about hospital, although now I have just read that they give you the same tablet I would
of been taking, although only have to put up
with it for an hour rather than lots Of hours, and apparently the acctually pain part for the vacuum only lasts a few minutes

I’m sat here crying right now haven’t eaten in 3 days, feel awfully anxious, not coping at all. Just all the options right now are terrifying and I don’t know how to cope, they haven’t called back yet to book appointment but yet again I have read some people experience with the type I think I will go for, ideally under local people say injections hurt but I had that for lletz procedure and it was ok, but again the are saying the pain is horrific, I just can’t cope, already taken the first tablet so even me deciding to not abort
isnt even an option this is hell!

Take some deep breaths, do some mindfulness techniques and try and remember that this anticipation for either of the ways you chose is probably much worse than any of the pain. Is it too late to take the second tablets?

littlefox90 · 05/06/2024 19:28

Please don't think I'm down playing this for you but there is a great video about fear from will smith here

It talks about how leading up to an event your scared and how during the actual event it's not as bad.

snuckle · 05/06/2024 20:20

Has the clinic offered you some counselling? Or perhaps you could have a chat with the nurse, they could help calm your anxiety, don't read too much into the horror stories, they could of been further along, not given birth before or scare mongering.
Honestly you're at the earliest stage and most straightforward, 6 weeks, which means about 4 weeks of actual pregnancy, it's barely started, I will be shocked if you come back and thought it would be anywhere near unbearable pain. I would personally rather be at home in bed and have it over in few hours, it would all be over by the time you got another clinic appointment. Bleeding after can last up to two weeks but it's painless just a longer than normal period.

Scribbless99 · 05/06/2024 20:25

See I have heard lots say it’s painless and lots say it isn’t, it’s gone over 48 hours so can’t do the medical one now as already taken first pill, you would like to think something so small wouldn’t really hurt wouldn’t you, I just didn’t like the idea
of not being in a hospital environment tbh, if they offered me it at hospital with more pain relief than ibuprofen and someone to keep and eye I wouldn’t be so scared, don’t feel comfortable at home tbh the way other have described. I just don’t really have a comparison I have done labour twice, although awful, root canal
for absyss and lletz procedure that’s all I have for comparison 🤣

Your way up on me for the pain scale then, given birth once and have tattoos that's it. You've done birth twice! Plus root canal!

Scribbless99 · 05/06/2024 20:41

@littlefox90 have you ever had one and what type did you have? X

I had a surgical abortion at 6 weeks and only had local anaesthetic injected into my cervix (didn't feel the injections at all, I couldn't believe it when he said they were done). I didn't have any sedation or gas and air.

Honestly, I'm a wimp, but I've have more uncomfortable smear tests.

There was 10 seconds of strong cramping right at the end, then it was like a mild period for a couple of days. I didn't need to take any painkillers. The whole thing took a couple of minutes, I was only in the room about 5-10 mins.

Scribbless99 · 05/06/2024 21:08

@YellowHairband that made me feel so much better about the procedure, it’s crazy isn’t it how some say it’s really painful and some say they Don’t feel much, we’re you given any pain relief beforehand? Did you do it with BPAS? X

I think they told me to take some ibuprofen before I arrived. I was absolutely terrified of the local anaesthetic injections because I had had some around my vagina when I needed stitches after giving birth and they really stung so I assumed that on my cervix it would be much worse. But honestly, when he said "right, we just need to wait 2 mins for the anaesthetic to work" I couldn't believe he'd done them, I felt nothing.

Yep it was a BPAS clinic.

No I haven't but I did a lot of research and was with a friend when she did her medical one. She was OK, some painkillers and a hot water bottle she said it was like a heavy period

See the injections I’m not scared off I did them with stitche with both kids, and also for cervical cancer cells removal so they don’t scare Me at all, it’s the removal people say is extremely painful, it can’t be down to just everyone’s pain threshold surely 🫣

Also where did you go for it? I’m near reading and worried the will
ship me off to god knows where 🫣

@Scribbless99 I went to the clinic in Reading.

I didn't find the actual procedure bad at all. Some mild cramping at the start that then ramped up to quite intense but for me that was literally the last 5-10 seconds that was bad. And then as soon as it was over that cramping went right back down to mild period pain that I wouldn't normally take a painkiller for. I think being such an early gestation helped with that, I was 6 weeks exactly.

Deebee90 · 05/06/2024 21:31

Everyone’s pain levels are different. Not everything in life is pain free. I’m sorry but you’ve made your mind up about this so you have to do it whether it hurts or not. You’ll only know once it’s done. Stop reading stories and people’s views as they are different to yours.

skeletonbones · 05/06/2024 21:41

He scribbles,
very sorry you re going through this. I had the surgical procedure at 12 weeks a couple of years ago it was a mmc but surgical termination is exactly the same procedure. I was terrified beforehand as like you I have health anxiety over this kind of stuff, it was absolutely fine, much easier than i expected, very quick and very little pain afterwards, the other women on the ward having the same were also fine and said the same- much better than they thought it would be.
