Prolapse?

I have put this in 30 days only as it's a bit embarrassing.
I've a history of quite bad constipation for many years- nothing helps much.

I find when I have a full bowel these days though that I am passing a lot of air from my vagina before I am able to achieve a bowel movement.
Is this a sign of my bowel or vagina being likely to prolapse?
Is there anything that will help (apart from pelvic floor exercises I already do)

Hey
I have a full thickness bowl prolapse , it started in 2020 , to me it felt like when I was pushing to pass a stool it felt like I felt a click almost and my bum was falling a little.
It's full thickness now and I can't lie it is hard to manage but I've not needed an operation so far.
I would go to see a dr and they can investigate , please don't suffer or put off going , I used to tell my dr that I felt like that or sometimes when I pushed I felt I was going to throw up and he told me that couldn't be possible but it was.
Always here if you need me OP x

Also absolutely ask Mumsnet to move this as you will get more replies

medianewbie · 27/05/2024 11:34

thank you @Foxlover46
I'm sorry you've had problems too. I don't have a GP who will listen either.
I hope that you can continue to manage it & avoid surgery.
I will ask for it to be moved as you suggest.

I have 3 prolapses - bowel, bladder and uterus. I don't recognise the symptoms you mention but that doesn't mean you don't have a prolapse. Everyone's symptoms are different.
When I first developed my prolapses after childbirth my main symptom was a feeling of something falling out, like a tampon that's not inserted properly. I also had a dragging feeling and backache.
It's best to get assessed. Can I just warn you that in my experience is that GPs know nothing about prolapses and aren't good at diagnosing them! Push for a referral to a urogynocologist. They know what's what.
All the best OP and don't worry. Prolapses are very common and manageable.

@SallyWD thank you for replying x
I'm so sorry you've experienced all 3 kinds / areas of prolapse!
I hope you got the right kind of help with all that.

I don't get a dragging feeling. Just when my bowel is full (mostly, as I suffer bad constipation) then I feel it is pushing against my vaginal wall & pushing any air th out (I have retroverted uterus but I dont suppose that is linked to the 'air out'?)
Best to see a GP but my GP is utterly useless & won't refer on for anything.
I can put up with it atm, I just wondered if there was anything I can do to stop it getting worse. Solve the constipation would be the answer but I've not had much luck with that so far. Ho hum.

Like @SallyWD said , my surgeon told me most GP's don't really have the expertise when it comes to prolapse as they have to be trained in general for everything they often miss them.
I had two bottom examinations it was the lady dr on the third who said it wasn't just fissures but a actual prolapse

Foxlover46 · 29/05/2024 00:48

They said to me
Constipation will
Make it worse and referred me to physio , I haven't gone because I know how to poo with my feet on a stool etc , I know constipation is part of it and I cannot deal with some of the laxatives they give you

Foxlover46 · 29/05/2024 00:49

It's worrying how many women are carrying these problems around not really getting the help we need yet alone the correct advice on how to deal with/ live with them.
X

Do you feel any lumps down below when you need a poo? If you put your finger in your vagina do you feel a mass on the back wall? If so then you probably have a rectocele. Pushing against it can help you go (called splinting I think).
Just to warn anyone going to pelvic floor physio that they stick their finger inside you to test how strong your pelvic floor is. I was not expecting this at all when I first went!!

You could try regular constipation relief, such as using Laxido and glycerol suppositories. Relieving your constipation would definitely help with any prolapse symptoms.
