Massive flooding out of nowhere?

Yesterday after a bath I was in my dressing gown and it felt like I was weeing. When I looked down it was blood absolutely pouring out of me - very few clots, mostly pure blood. I’d say it must have been a pint or more, I’ve never seen anything like it. It soaked through the entire bottom of my dressing gown I was using to try and stop the flow and a huge puddle on the floor. It was painful at all, absolutely no warning.

I passed a large clot and then it has stopped. I don’t feel unwell now, so will get in with my GP after the bank holiday but can anyone shed any light?

I would at least call 111 for that kind of blood loss. I don't want to panic you, but there was once a poster on MN who had something similar and was encouraged to call an ambulance (apart from some idiot posters who told her it was 'just a period'). She updated later in the weekend to say if she hadn't called, she would have died. I can’t remember what had happened to her, but it became very serious very quickly. Don't wait til after the bank holiday, just in case.

Definitely call 111

can you take any pics of the aftermath eg stained dressing gown? Sounds odd I know but one dr assured me it’s really helpful as one persons period is another persons flooding. That sounds really upsetting. Is there any chance you could have been pregnant or are pregnant?

I had a subchoronic heamaoma when I was pregnant. It was like a huge blood blister in my uterus and it popped and gushed out of me like a tap turned on. They could see the sac of it on a scan. Luckily I didn’t lose my pregnancy but some women do. They can also refill with blood.

it really sounds like a scan is in order : I’d call 111 and also make appt with gp on Tuesday and also take pregnancy test - to cover all bases!

Was your miscarriage “complete”? I had a miscarriage that still had tissues remaining after surgery. They told me it would make its own way out in my next period… however it was more like a random burst of blood as you describe, went all over the bathroom floor and was spurting out in a heartbeat pattern! I thought I was going to die but it stopped after about a minute. I arranged a follow up scan and all tissue was then clear. Mine took about six weeks after the surgery to clear in this way, and it wasn’t my period. It’s been longer since your miscarriage but not impossible I suppose for it to be related to that. A scan would be a good idea. Sending hugs as it’s bloody (ha) scary! Xx

I would give 111 a call sounds similar to when I had a decidual cast. They prescribed transemic acid

I've had loads of heavy bleeding with trips to gynae, one of the things they say to look out for is blood pouring out like a tap, that's a red flag to come straight in. Definitely call your doctor.

A paramedic told me people always overestimate the amount of blood loss. Imagine a pint of milk smashed on the floor, and people easily donating the same amount. Hope you're feeling better, OP.
