Which vitamins/supplements to get myself back on track

Hi all, I'm approaching 40 and feeling very run down. I'm currently on a course of antibiotics but am feeling motivated to get myself looking and feeling healthier. I thought I'd start with. some vitamins but don't really know what to take. What do others take please? Also, does anyone recommend anything else such as for gut health, collagen etc? I have young children and am sleep deprived and feel like I've aged a lot in the last few years so would really appreciate any advice. My mum also noticed that I look quite pale so she suggested I take iron. Thanks

Same age with 2 kids - for gut health I’ve started making and drinking kefir. It’s been life changing for me and I’ve definitely managed to avoid the dreaded illnesses from the kids. I do take magnesium and vid D. I take have collagen powder in my tea occasionally. Kefir and vid D are my essentials. Other two I don’t have religiously.

I have a young child also but have found I have much more energy and overall mood improves when I take a high quality multivitamin and magnesium at night. I also would recommend a probiotic for gut health

Take a general multivitamin plus some extra vitamin D.

But honestly if try to prioritise little and often exercise that will make the most difference both to your physical and mental health.

I like to do first thing in the morning 10 mins of cross trainer it's so short I can't say I don't have time but it's strenuous enough for me to feel the endorphins which gives me a lovely boost.

I take a Probiotic from H&B, Vitamin D, Zinc and echinacea. Probiotic was amazing, reduced stomach bloating a lot

Have you had blood tests recently?

You may be low in iron and B12. I was. I also take fish collagen, a general multivitamin for 50+, optibac extra probiotic, eat kefir every day and have vitamin D prescription.

I too am just getting over a nasty lingering virus and I'm in my 40's with young kids.

I second the exercise. I do a class once a week and walk as much as possible.

I am on HRT and allergy meds. I have started the Better You vitamin spray and the Zinc spray and I keep these in my makeup bag so I don't forget. I also take Tesco's Magnesium (365mg) every night which has helped my sleep no end.

I do feel better since since taking these vitamins. I have been taking magnesium for a few years now and really notice a difference in my sleep when I forget to take them.

Also lots of fresh fruit and veg, plenty of water and naps where possible!

Magnesium glycinate. Lots of it. All women should be taking it.

Thanks all, really appreciate it. Wow, I really miss improve things and get on the band wagon as I currently take nothing and am constantly tired, lethargic and definitely feel I am lacking in vit d etc. might try and book a blood test. Thanks again.

I bought some grains off Amazon and they have instructions. Pretty easy to maintain, just need to sieve and then add milk to grains each day. Collagen I use hunter & gather brand.

I have no idea if this will have any benefit but I have just bought rheal balance tonic, which is a supplement blend aimed at women. It was 3 for 2 at holland and Barrett so should last 3 months, after which I'll decide if it was a big con or not!
I'm also starting taking a multivitamin. Just one of the cheap supermarket ones.

I need to make some changes...my diet is crap, I have little motivation to exercise and I'm putting weight on. I also get hormonal headaches and find I am more anxious, could happily never have sex again and having trouble with waking in the night which I never used to have. I'm 40 this year so have decided I need to try and make some positive changes. I'm hoping even if the supplement is a placebo, it will give me the motivation and good thoughts to eat better and exercise!
