Top tips for a healthy gut

My diet has been appalling over winter! Comfort food, processed food, white carbs and I think it has taken its toll on my gut. I feel exhausted, tired and not very regular!

Can you share your top tips for a healthy gut (obviously upping fruit and veg) but other things you've done to make your gut happy again? I feel it's the key to feeling healthy and on a mission now

I try to start the day well, as I'm always at home for breakfast it's the one meal I have total control over.

I have yoghurt, with a small amount of kefir mixed in, 2 or 3 different berries, kiwi, passion fruit etc, with a sprinkling of nuts and seeds over the top. If you organise yourself (putting seeds in jars so they're easily accessible etc,) this will help to make it quicker.

Try adding some kimchi to your meals, even a small teaspoon full will make a difference. Adding some veg alongside crap food will help too, eg cucumber and carrot sticks with a burger.

Also, for inspiration read Food for Life by Tim Spector or listen to the podcasts from him or Zoe Health ones on Spotify. Good luck!

@BluebirdBoogie great ideas thank you. I do have the book 'the Gut Makeover' which I followed for a month last year and was incredible! I ate a lot of kimchi (which I find delicious) and I also love sauerkraut!

Great idea about the seeds and nuts! I'm also going to go and get some kiwi (have lots of berries from my shop yesterday)! Hoping I can stick to this fairly strictly for a month! I suffer from anxiety too so gut health really helps improve this.

I do what PP suggests with the yoghurt, kefir and homemade mixture of nuts and seeds and dried fruit over the top. I also had a massive spoonful of flax seed/probiotic stuff I buy on Amazon.

Also get some apple cider vinegar with the mother - I get mine from Ocado and I make smoothies with frozen or fresh fruit, grape juice, kefir and ACV. With flaxseed stirred in at the end.

I eat:
Kefir yoghurt which I like the taste of, I mix it with live TOTAL yoghurt usually with berries and a banana.

Or. Porridge which I mix flaxseeds into and then Blueberries and a big dollop of kefir on top

I pickle red onions in live apple cider vinegar, I hey mine from aldi or lidl.

Lots of seeds and nuts.

Lots of fruit and veg.

I also drink kombucha (and use as a mixer for vodka at the weekend!)

I am very regular, 2 times a day mainly, sometimes 3!

Have you watched Hack Your Health - the secrets of your gut on Netflix?

I watched it last week, totally resonated with it. I have now been eating tonnes of veg, which has always made me feel better, no alcohol, Kimchi, Kombucha, Kefir and a tablespoon of Love Thy Gut fibre and live culture supplement.

4 days in and I already feel 50% better.

Good luck, I have always believed (but not always followed) that you are what you eat.
