Summer199444 · 23/04/2024 18:20

Hi

I'm 29 about 2 weeks ago I noticed a large lump behind my nipple, my nipple has also inverted and feels hot. I went to see my gp and she referred me to the breast clinic. My appointment is tomorrow and I'm so scared. Can anyone talk me through what will happen at the clinic tomorrow ? If it's nothing to worry about will they tell me tomorrow? Thank you

I had to go a few weeks ago as I had a mammogram that they wanted to explore further. Firstly, they were very professional and kind. I went in, they called me up and took my details, then I had to wait to have another mammogram on the breast they had concern about. I then had to dress again and waited five minutes for the doctor to examine me, they did an ultrasound of the nipple and armpit. They then told me there and then that it was all fine, which is hopefully what they will say to you tomorrow. Good luck with it, I know how scary it is but the staff were really lovely and really professional throughout.

Thank you for talking to me im glad you got the all clear. did u get a biopsy ? My gp said I’d probably get one? I know the odds are it will probably be nothing sinister. I’m just scared I’ve got 2 little kids and it’s all I can think about.

dont worry. I have breast cancer, and really the treatments these days, you just carry on with your life and it gets sorted out. You probably dont have it, but you will probably be absolutely fine even if you do. The worry about breast cancer far excedes the reality of it

They said I might need a biopsy but after the ultrasound they were satisfied that all was fine. I really do understand how scary it is, I was terrified to be honest. But the waiting is the worst bit and least once you are there you will know what the situation is. Have you got someone to go with you?

thank you, I’m not the most patient person at the best of times and something like this is even worse. Hopefully all this worry will be for nothing.

I had breast cancer last year and now I'm cured so if it is that, the chances are you will be fine. They told me there and then at the breast clinic that I had cancer. They usually know what they're looking at on the ultrasound. Sending you strength and best wishes ❤️

I went last week, also with a lump behind my nipple. I was pleasantly surprised at what a quick and efficient service it was. I saw a Consultant first who felt the lump and said straight away that it was a cyst but mammogram to make sure. I had a mammogram which confirmed it then an ultrasound where I had the cyst drained. I was in and out within an hour. I hope you have a similar experience tomorrow and that all is well.

Thank you. I’m glad you got the all clear and fingers crossed I get the same news tomorrow too. I always panic not normally when it comes to do with me but this time is different. I think it’s because I can feel it and see the nipple inverted it.

thank you, hope all goes well for you when you’re appointment comes. The last 2 weeks waiting has been horrible, been having a cry to myself thinking the worst when I’m alone.

When I first went to the breast clinic I had a mammogram first, then an ultrasound, and a biopsy. It took about a week for the biopsy result to come back but the consultant who did the ultrasound was already fairly sure that I had breast cancer when he saw the mammogram and ultrasound images. As other people have said, the staff in breast clinics are SO kind and caring, and the majority of women who they see don't have breast cancer.

But if the worst happens, treatment is so much better now. I had a mastectomy and reconstruction because I had three tumours, and I was absolutely shocked by the amazing job the plastic surgeon did - I could honestly say that I could undress next to anyone and they wouldn't notice that I had had a reconstruction, it's thst good. Everyone's treatment is very different, but I didn't need chemotherapy or radiotherapy.

If you don't get the all clear tomorrow, you might find it helpful to contact Breast Cancer Now. It is a fantastic organisation and they have courses yiu can attend, leaflets on every aspect of breast cancer, and the Someone Like Me service, where they match you up with a trained and vetted volunteer who has had exactly the same experience as you.

I really do hope everything is ok tomorrow and you get the reassurance you need.

Thank you very much for taking the time to talk to me. That’s amazing when I think of cancer I always just presume you will need chemo but that’s great you didn’t. Thank you for the advice if it doesn’t go well tomorrow I’ll definitely reach out to them.

Best wishes for tomorrow. You’ll normally see a clinician who will examine you and discuss why you’ve been referred. Then you’ll be sent for an ultrasound scan.. You won’t be sent for a mammogram because of your age. The doctor or radiographer doing your scan will tell you what they see and if it looks worrying or not. They’ll tell you if they think you need a biopsy. How concerned was your GP?

Thank you. My gp didn’t say much just that she could feel the lump and see the nipple was inverted so she referred me. She did ask family history but I only know one half’s. She said I’d get an ultrasound and to expect a biopsy maybe she was just preparing me in case I needed a biopsy on the day.

Good luck today and fingers crossed all is ok. I was there yesterday and can honestly say the week of waiting was the worst part. Mine was a cyst, confirmed by ultrasound and drained there and then. The staff there were all so lovely and reassuring. I was in and out in less than an hour

I had to go to breast clinic last month because I had a painful lumpy breast and a history of breast cancer in my family. I had an examination and an ultrasound and was told there and then that all was fine. I was only there about an hour so it was quite speedy. Good luck for today

Alasia24 · 24/04/2024 08:46

Hi, I had to go to the breast clinic last year, after I noticed a patch of red/purple skin and also what felt like the 'let down' reflex in my nipple.

Anyway. Went in, waited almost an hour, a consultant checked my breasts and I think at the time said he didn't see anything obvious to worry about, I then went for an ultrasound where the lady said she couldn't see anything obviously bad and then went back to the consultant who confirmed that they couldn't find any evidence of lumps or cysts.

So yeah, reassurance all the way through and confirmation at the end that all was fine, was relieved I didn't have to wait for any results!

Good luck for today :)

fudgecat · 24/04/2024 13:43

Fingers crossed for you today
