I'm having this on Friday. Anyone who has had it done, should I take someone with me? Not sure about driving afterwards or how I will feel?

I have had it done twice and although it was fine, I really wouldn’t have been able to drive home. Please take someone with you. Good luck, and if you haven’t already been told, take a couple of paracetamols an hour before your appointment. Let us know how you get on.

Blankscreen · 21/04/2024 21:01

I had it done a couple of months ago.
I've got a bicornuate uterus and it was awful as it wasn't straight forward.

Ended up having gas and air and felt dreadful, no way could I drive home.

Usernamewassavedsuccessfully · 21/04/2024 21:03

I did drive home after, I had no idea it would be better to have someone drive me (not that I had anyone to do so). If you have someone who can, do.

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 23/04/2024 17:41

Having mine tomorrow so will let you know how I get on.

AzureBlue99 · 23/04/2024 17:49

You can ask for it to be done under general anaesthetic.

NCTDN · 23/04/2024 20:49

I don't want ga

You’ll be ok. I’ve had it done twice and although it’s uncomfortable, it didn’t hurt. I had a lovely nurse holding my hand and talking to me. Remember to take some painkillers before you go. Good luck and let us know how it goes xxx

norasand · 24/04/2024 05:14

I have, i wouldn't count on being comfortable to drive. You might be, but you might not. What I would do, is make sure to take both ibuprofen and paracetamol about an hour to 40 mins before (unless the clinic has told they will be providing the pain relief). For me it was like awful period cramps and that was dosed up on ibuprofen and cocodamol. Others say it's fine though, so it can vary a great deal

LateMumma · 24/04/2024 05:19

As PP, my experience wasn't great. I found it very painful and needed gas and air. Definitely avoid driving if you can, and dose up on painkillers. I wouldn't plan on doing much for the rest of the day, although you may find you're fine

GoldViper · 24/04/2024 05:58

I was fine. They put numbing cream on my cervix and then injected something so I couldn't feel anything. I had a uterine biopsy as well and that was just a slight pinch. Didn't feel the coil going in at all.

I was perfectly fine to drive home.

Duckinglunacy · 24/04/2024 06:36

I had one a couple of years ago to get to a coil that was stuck. It was fine, not the best day of my life, and a little uncomfortable but not painful (I had some local anaesthetic on my cervix). Ultimately the coil was really stuck so I had to have it switched out under GA. The recovery from that was a few days of feeling bleh. The awake procedure was much better in that regard.

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 24/04/2024 13:22

Had it done OP. Having the scope was no problem for me at all. The only part that was uncomfortable was the having the biopsy’s taken.

Unfortunately I have a small pelvis, high up cervix that is odd shaped.
This did cause them some issues while trying to get the biopsy’s. I had two other members come in to try before the consult did and was successful.

If I’m honest the 5 biopsy’s taken were a little painful but luckily over quickly. The staff were very good and stopped when I needed a break and reminded me I was welcome to come back and have it under GA or try LA if it was too much but I just wanted it over with.

I have a bit of cramping and bleeding going on but otherwise fine. Nothing a nice cup of tea and my heated blanket won’t fix. Good luck for yours on Friday.

How are you feeling now?

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 25/04/2024 15:02

Still bleeding slightly and cramping but I’m mainly a little tender on my right side where they took a few biopsy’s, but otherwise fine. Thank you for asking. Fortunately I did book today off work as well so having a chill day.

How you feeling about tomorrow?

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 26/04/2024 09:19

Good luck for today OP.

NCTDN · 26/04/2024 10:12

Ok I'm back. Had a nurse practitioner doing it but my cervix wouldn't open. She couldn't do any more because she said i will need local anaesthetic and dilation. So I'm now waiting for another appointment with doctor...

OP posts:
Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 26/04/2024 10:27

Thanks for the update, how do you feel about having to have another appointment?

NCTDN · 26/04/2024 10:31

Well I just want it over tbh! Wasn't too painful though so it could be worse.

OP posts:
Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 26/04/2024 10:36

Hopefully you don’t have to wait to long.

NCTDN · 04/05/2024 17:19

Just had the hysteroscopy and coil fitted. I was in and out in under half an hour and could have quite easily driven tbh. I'm a bit achy but nothing much.

OP posts:
Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 04/05/2024 20:17

Glad it went well.

Smleps · 05/05/2024 07:42

Excellent. A relief it’s all over.

NCTDN · 05/05/2024 18:40

@Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse did you bleed much afterwards ? I was prepared for few days of bleeding but have only had a bit of spotting yesterday.

OP posts:
Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 05/05/2024 22:42

I bled for two days.
