Would you do test for toxoplasmosis?

While this situation is going on.
I tested begin pregnancy not immune for toxoplasmosis and everyday i ate frozen blue berries unwashed in my smoothie. I thought that was safe.
However, it turns out freezing does not kill toxoplasmosis. I freaked out about this yesterday. I eat very local organic so i called the manufacturer. Again it turns out they DON'T wash it before freezing. Wow im going crazy at this point.
What would you do let it go? Or get tested again to put my mind at ease? It don't know what is wisdom.

Will testing even help? There's nothing you can do right? Just going forward maybe wash them?

cerisepanther73 · 21/04/2024 11:22

@cherisexx

No haven't thought of that even though i used to have several pet cats

Scarftown · 21/04/2024 11:31

While what situation is going on? I wouldn't worry toxoplasmosis is very unlikely

StuffLoriThangs · 21/04/2024 11:35

Are you pregnant or do you have health anxiety OP?

LenaLamont · 21/04/2024 11:36

I’d not test - it’s not like you can change anything retrospectively. Just wash them and crack on with your life.

WonkyBricks · 21/04/2024 11:41

Just wondering where do you live OP? As far as I'm aware toxoplasmosis immunity is not routinely tested in the UK.

I wouldn't even think about being tested for it, unless there were concerns on scan about baby

cherisexx · 21/04/2024 11:58

I have both ;)

Currently pregnant 28weeks

Personally I would test. I find it crazy they don't test for it as standard in the UK.
My home country - western European- does tests per standard, and if you are not immune you are told to be very very careful (eg my aunt's cat came to live with us whilst she was pregnant).

Just chill. No harm done. Maybe from today start ensuring fruit is washed?

Unless there's something else going on?

BeethovenNinth · 21/04/2024 12:06

I got tested and was negative despite growing up with numerous incontinent cats and eating unwashed fruit and veg.

Okayornot · 21/04/2024 12:27

I think this is much less of a concern in the UK than in the US, for which there seem to be several alarmist websites going on about toxoplasmosis.

Quite apart from anything else, toxoplasmosis is in the soil. Blueberries grow on a bush above the soil and so really wouldn't be in contact even if a cat chose to shit at the bottom of the plant.

You should also speak to your GP about your anxiety levels. It isn't normal to be freaking out about frozen blueberries.

BeethovenNinth · 21/04/2024 12:34

Also bear in mind how much is grown in poly tunnels which aren’t exactly awash with felines

Somerandomgirl · 22/04/2024 13:27

Just eat everything as normal youre gonna bring yourself health anxiety like i did, now i cant eat ANYTHING without worrying cause whole first pregnancy all i did was worry about this and that. Second pregnancy just ate whatever. So eat as normal! If youve been fine all your life eating its the same now

Riverlee · 22/04/2024 13:29

You’re obviously concerned about it, so i would test to out your mind at ease.

However, I’m sure the risks are minimal.
