Pelvic pain and lower back pain

Hi everyone,

I'm 21 months post partum and I feel like my body still isn't back to normal. My baby self weaned at 18 months and my periods returned a month later. 9 months post partum I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and then a few months later I was diagnosed with slight rectus diastatsis after having an abdominal ultrasound for stomach pain and gas but nothing was diagnosed from my symptoms, they just subsided when I cut out some certain foods.

Since my periods have returned I am having on and off pelvic pain and lower back pain which extends to my left hip and legs after walking a lot. I also carry my toddler a lot as I'm a stay at home mum and supervise his mischiefs all day, so I'm not sure if it's a pelvic floor issue. I am going to contact the gp for more checks but does anyone have a similar experience?

Definitely check with the GP but this sounds really similar. I had sciatica during pregnancy 2 so it was really clear that was what was happening. I was able to go to a pelvic/maternity physio and get it checked by a gynaecologist.

I have found online pilates to be hugely helpful. I had some sort of back pain every day and a lot of sort of side pelvic pain, and it massively massively improved. Most days are completely pain free and my uterine prolapse has actually gone up!

But definitely get it checked.

Sciatica. It's a beast

Hi, thanks for responding. I was thinking maybe sciatica but I didn't know it could cause pelvic pain.

I guess it's all probably related to your pelvic floor and core muscles going to shit! They tend to go together! But it is fixable - or at least possible to improve.

Sounds similar to my experience. Basically, pregnancy then baby care left me very weak (lack of opportunity/energy to exercise). The NHS were useless but that was in early days of covid. I later saw a private physiotherapist who specialised in postnatal. The exercise programme she gave me made a world of difference.
