Mammogram next week. I'm terrified.

I'm 30 with two small children, I have found a lump about 4cm to the right and down of my right breast.

I'm terrified, my youngest is 2. All I keep thinking about is that I have cancer and this is it. I can't stop crying.

I'm a little older than you and amongst my friends and family there are quite a few of us who have had lumps and bumps over the years. They can be anything from a cyst to a fibroid. IME a mammogram is quick, absolutely painless - just slightly uncomfortable, and you'll be in and out in 15 mins. We are so lucky to have access to such procedures so try not to catastrophise. Fwiw I've had about 4 mammograms and a needle biopsy. They threw up a fibroid and a benign hard lump. All cancer negative. Good luck.

Totally understandable to be anxious.

You can only hope for the best though and remain positive.

Thankfully, even if it is the worse possible scenario, treatment is excellent nowadays.

I have a 3.5cm lump - turned out to be harmless. It grew very quickly and does kind of move around - it's called a fibroadenoma. The mammogram showed what looked to be a cyst but ultrasound (done on the same day) said it was solid so it was biopsied there and then. Results in a week. I'm much older than you so it's less common but common in younger women.

The odds, especially at your age, are that it is something completely harmless. Many many lumps are benign, cysts, etc.

So try not to worst case scenario. Easier said than done, but panicking won't do you any good.
