What is this red spot near nipple?

I’m 36 yr old female and for the past 6/7 weeks I’ve had a spot that has been persistent near my nipple. Now, I did the terrible thing a few weeks ago by trying to burst it. It did seem to have a head on it at the time, but now it seems much flatter but isn’t going away. About 2 weeks ago I went doctor and she looked at it, didn’t seem very concerned and gave me some bacterial cream, which I’ve been using but doesn’t seem to be working very well or I’m not using it enough.

I have really bad health anxiety and little things can feel really catastrophic to me, so i immediately go to breast cancer or something. Anyway, I haven’t picked it or anything just trying to keep it clean, not sure if clothes and bras are rubbing off it and it’s just not going away as quickly as I wanted.

I have a photo below. There isn’t any pain or lumps or inflammation just not going away yet. Some days it seems more red than others but yeah, any idea?

It looks like an ordinary pimple to me. Maybe it just hadnt had a chance to heal (from picking, chafing).

I get pimples on my chest all the time

If you have a pimple or a bite and pick it, sometimes you get a brown scar and I think it's called a dermatofibroma. Some people are prone to them. They're totally harmless although sometimes itchy and I've got lots of them.

If you're concerned, ask your gp to refer you to Dermatology

Womblingmerrily · 25/03/2024 13:59

You have already been to your GP. They were not concerned.

Unless there is a significant change - an increase in the number of spots or increased redness/swelling around this you just need wait it out.

I do not think a single spot requires a dermatology appointment and would be a waste of resources.

You need to manage your health anxiety to make sure you are not overusing medical resources and thus preventing other people from accessing them.

Could it be an ingrown hair? I get darker stray hairs around there 🙈

merryandbrightdelight · 25/03/2024 14:14

Looks how mine did with an ingrown hair - after a few weeks it became very painful so I used tweezers to pop it and pull the hair out (I don't advise this as it was sore doing that!) but the redness stayed for a few weeks after, then went

@Mumoftwo1312 Thanks for reply! Yeah, I think the sweaters would be been wearing a lot due to cold weather and then getting warm might be delaying it’s healing too. I think I just panic if it doesn’t heal within a few days or a week.

@Womblingmerrily Thanks for reply! Yeah my GP was not overly concerned when she looked at it, I think I just panic if something doesn’t heal quickly, my brain immediately goes to worst case scenario. Theirs probably many factors not helping such as clothing and heating in the house.

@shugarsuz I hate book hairs haha! Yeah I do get very long ones, this spot could be that too. Thanks for reply!

I’ve had several of these lovely. They’re nothing to worry about - just normal pimples. It’s perhaps lingering a bit longer because you’ve attempted to squeeze it, and this area generally tends to be sensitive. If you’ve been to your GP and they’re not worried then I don’t think you have anything to worry about.

@merryandbrightdelight I can’t see any hair but it could be turned in, I often get unturned hairs on my chin, so I guess boobs are no different haha! Yeah I know I made it worse when I picked it, so going to just keep it clean and put some cream on. I’m a panic head, everything is worst case. Thanks for reply!

@SkyMischa mine was unturned! When I finally got to it, it was like a little loop that I had to pull and it was one of the longest I've ever had there - when I got it out, it bled a little and it literally looked like someone had scooped a perfect little circle out of my skin, so weird.

I have HA too and it's awful, so I know where you're coming from - you always imagine the worst with it, but just remember you've seen your GP and they weren't concerned about it either. Before your cream try a warm compress on it, if there is a hair it'll open your pores and encourage it to break through the skin

Mumoftwo1312 · 25/03/2024 19:48

Google dermatofibroma, op. If it's that and I think it is, there's unlikely to be a hair or anything else stuck in there, and if you pick at it more, it just makes more scar tissue.
