Ever since I went through the menopause I have suffered from migraines. Not bad ones and no headache but just aural. They only last 10 minutes and then they are gone. They happen every few months. Should I see my GP

Ive no idea what causes them to happen. They are not caused by eating chocolate or cheese

I am coming down with a cold and had a maigraine on Friday and then had another one this morning two days later. It only lsted 10 minutes and I am fine now but it was quite worrying to have one so soon after the other and so I called 111 and they said see your GP

As you say, it's since menopause.
I have the most debilitating migraines that last 3 days and get them on average every 2 to 3 weeks. Have don't for 5 years and I'm 52. I suspect mine is due to age.
Not much you can do other that try different meds so see your GP. It takes a while to get the right meds.
Nothing has helped me though but I think I'm a lost cause.
Good luck OP.

I'd definitely see your gp, hormonal imbalances can definitely trigger them. I'd ask for them to do bloods and HRT (or a change of, if already prescribed) may well help get rid of them

When I was younger I had aura followed by severe headache and feeling ill for 3 days. This was usually once a month so definitely hormonal.
Post menopause mine changed to mostly a brief aura, like you, triggered by the fluorescent lighting at work. I did not feel that was serious enough for any intervention as not painful and very brief.
Tiredness and stress are often triggers. Caffeine and alcohol are probably more common triggers than cheese or chocolate.
For me, 2 triggers at once will generally set off a migraine e.g. being under bright lights at the start of my period or when very stressed or tired.
At your age, I would try HRT if you have any other menopause issues.

I've been told I can't take HRT because it will make my migraines worse.
Vicious circle

I've only ever had migraines during puberty, pregnancy and peri/menopause, so mine are clearly triggered by hormones.

The ones I had during peri-menopause were by far the worst. I ended up in hospital twice as they thought I was having a stroke.

HRT is what saved me! It took a few tries to find the right balance but once it was sorted I have only ever had one migraine. So that's one in 2 years. .

@Horrace I'm. It sure why you've been told you can't have HRT because you have migraines? My migraines have stopped since I've been on HRT - in fact it was because of migraines that I started on HRT.

My Female GP was pretty rubbish to be honest. I went in asking advice about HRT because of my poor memory, brain fog and anxiety and I got a flat no because it would make my migraines so much worse.
I decided I'd rather put up with the other symptoms.

I might go back and ask for a different doctor.

Sorry to hijack your thread OP

I went through the menopause 13 years ago when I was 47 and was told that I did not need HRT. I never got hot flushes or anything. . only thing was that my periods got less and less until they stopped completely. I am coming down with a cold so I have a stuffy head and loss of appetite. I did google migraine symptoms and they said if you dont eat enough it can trigger a migraine or if you are dehydrated. I cannot think of any other factor for me. My migraines have never been lasting more than 20 minutes I NEVER get a bad headache and I am totally back to normal after the eposide which completely subsides in no more than 15 or 20 minutes. I feel for other people who get much worse symptoms and long lasting ones which go on all day or two days. Thankfully that has never happened to me

You should go see your GP Flute, it's odd to get migraine like that now.
Good that they are for such a brief time though.
Nevertheless, best to get it checked out. Could be a form of vertigo or something

why is it odd to get a migraine like that? What is od about it? they are what they are and the only person that can confirm they are fine as they are is my GP so I will ask and its not vertigo because I hve had vertigo and know what vertigo is like

I get those and I am going through perimenopause just now. That's when they started. I get around three per month and usually in the same week. Aura and a very dull headache. I also feel very tired that day and a bit off the next day. My vision the next day is ok but not 100%. No known triggers so I think it's hormonal.

I was prescribed propanalol but that hasn't really made a difference.

Wasn't trying to scare u Flute. Sorry if I came across that way.
Because u started a thread about your migraines, I honestly thought u were asking if others had experience of this or similar .
I've not heard of a 20 min migraine without pain before. And I was suggesting u ask your GP.
I thought it odd. It's odd sounding to me. My experience of migraine lasts for days and his very painful.
I too have had vertigo.

Google basilar migraines (hormone) and vestibular migraines.

Also the 6 'Cs' worth trying.

Hormones are a big trigger but other things can add to it and set them off.

'Heal your Headache' is an excellent book for migrainers. It helped me so much!

I only started getting migraines when I went into perimenopause. Got them without fail on day 14-15 of my cycle and again from day 26 onwards until the first day of my period. Sometimes they would last for 3 days at a time. HRT has massively decreased the frequency of them. Also find cold caps on the head and tiger balm on the temples helps.

I googled my syptoms and this is what i fount

Retinal migraine (ocular migraine) is an eye condition. It causes brief attacks of blindness or visual problems like flashing lights in one eye. These attacks can be frightening, but in most cases they're harmless and short-lived.

So as I said, mine last no more than 20 minutes and what I have posted above says my type of migranes which are ocular migraines are short live

I have never ever had the long lating painful types

Hello!
I am a qualified Master Medicinal Herbalist and surprisingly, migraines are often to do with colon health. The colon may not be working as well as it should and backed-up digestive systems cause migraines. Colon issues can also cause brain fog, allergic responses and sleep issues.

Increase your water intake, write your concerns down so they are not in your head all the time and investigate doing a colon cleanse. After all, we clean our cars and get them MOT'd every year, but how often do we clean our bodies?
