Endometrial Ablation

I had my ablation on 2nd March and recovery has been horrendous! I’ve still got the watery bloody discharge and just feeling so drained. My period is due tomorrow and over the last few days I’ve had very low level cramps, nothing even worth taking painkillers for but today the bleeding has increased and it’s not the usual period bleeding I would have prior to the ablation but it’s floored me. I’m still only doing part days at work, luckily me and DH own our business so it’s not really an issue but I expected to be back to some normality by now. Anyone else had experience of this and also how do you know if you’re actually on a period or if it’s still the bleed from the ablation?

I had a procedure 4th March - earlier today I’m told likely infection caused by the coil and I can have the ‘foreign object’ down there out, left ward with two antibiotics and an antibiotic injection before leaving hospital. I became pretty vulnerable to a work colleague who became a chaperone.

There is no way I want to become a regular for infections I’d rather learn to live with a hard to get fibroid/vaginal surgery risky then this.

Last night 16 days after surgery seeking help not in vein. Please seek help if something doesn’t feel right x

@Guttedme Wow 😯, they offered me the coil but I refused as previously it fell out twice after my first child (now 23). They said that it’s very unlikely that it would happen again and things have advanced since, I still refused as I remember the pain I went through as if it was yesterday.
I don’t have any symptoms of an infection but I might just give them a call to make sure it’s not anything to worry about but I’m floored by this.
Also have you had much abdominal swelling? My stomach is so swollen but I’m thinking it’s weight gain as I’ve put on 4kg. I just don’t know what’s going on with my body and I’m starting to regret this and wish I’d just had a partial hysterectomy, at least there’s a guarantee that periods would definitely stop with a hysterectomy.
Hope you feel better soon 💐

I had an ablation done in January and I was surprised how long it took me to recover, it was six weeks (maybe more) before the bloating and abdominal pain and bleeding eased. I was so bloated that I went and bought new pairs of jeans two sizes bigger. It felt never ending but it feels better now. I think I should have taken it a lot easier and overdid things too quickly.
Unfortunately my periods have returned same as before the procedure.
Mine was complicated by having to take blood thinners very soon afterwards for an unrelated operation but bled so heavily I stopped them after ten days. I think that they probably made everything worse so I might not be the best example to compare to.

If you are concerned about infection, pain and bleeding or anything else
you really should get checked out. 111 advised me to go to A and E a week after the ablation and the gynae team saw me there where they prescribed an antibiotic and tranexamic acid.

Sorry that was a big long essay!
I hope that you feel better really soon x

I would go to your GP & have a check up. After my ablation I was pretty much back to normal after a week & haven't had any bleeding since, that was nearly 2 years ago.
I can remember the hospital being a bit vague about things though, as if everyone reacts differently & they weren't sure how long recovery would be or how much bleeding there would be. I think some people never have a period again, some people stop having periods then it restarts a few years later, some people find the ablation doesn't work at all, some people can't have the operation etc.
So what I'm saying is that no one can really tell you if your experience is normal & you should probably have a check up.
Are you due to see your surgeon again? I saw mine after about 3 months because he said then we would have an idea of how successful it had been (he didn't examine me though, just asked questions.)
