Gynaecologist appointment

I’ve got a gynaecologist appointment a week tomorrow I’ve already had one before and it didn’t go very well so I got put on the wait list and got another appointment a week tomorrow. On my first appointment he didn’t do an internal examination, I don’t know if this is because my gp did one or he didn’t need to do one or just the fact he wasn’t very good.
Would you normally have one? Also I have irregular periods I’m on CD 37 atm so I should be started by next week ( the most my periods have been is 49 days) I’m worried about them doing a internal examination during my period would they still do this?

I've had a coil fitted while on my period twice and I see a pelvic physio while bleeding.

However it dpeneds what your gynae app is for? If its to identify a skin condition or prolapse the blood will obscure it.

You can get norehisterone which can delay your period. Would that be any good?

@Droolylabradors
my appointment is for pain during sex, irregular periods and possible not ovulating / TTC problems, so I’m not sure whether they need to do a internal check.
i don’t want to take anything to delay my period because I don’t want it to mess up anymore 🙈 but if they can do it whilst I’m on my period that will be ok I don’t want to push this appointment back anymore as it’s so hard to get one. I just have to remind myself they’ve seen everything!

Have you seen a pelvic physio for the pain?

I'd say I would expect an internal for the pain part.

Write down any question you want to ask, no question is daft. You want to leave there thinking that you’ve asked all the questions you wanted to. If tests are suggested you want to know exactly why they are being done. Sounds obvious but it’s not always explained all that well.

Pain during sex can be a possible indicator of endometriosis being present. if this is present it is not readily detected on an internal ultrasound scan. It’s usually diagnosed via laparoscopy which is a keyhole surgery operation.

Irregularly of periods is often caused by hormonal imbalances, in this respect a condition called polycystic ovaries is a common culprit. That can be picked up via blood tests and internal ultrasound scans. Blood tests can be done according to calendar days if periods are consistently irregular. They should do a day 2 test to check and compare your LH levels against FSH. With polycystic ovaries there is usually more LH to FSH.

They doing an internal exam during your period will cause you no harm.
