I got Mirena in early august and it took a good few months for the spotting and general gunge to stop. (The doc described as if you have a big juicy womb lining that linings got to have somewhere to go whilst it thins down, and the only way is out) But it got less and less and it seems that my periods now have completely stopped (although I think I do still ovulate and have a cycle just without the period) and it's absolutely brilliant. It was only really the first bit of settling that it was inconvenient because of the amount of spotting but then it was smaller and smaller volumes that didn't need any protection just occasionally changing pants more than once a day. I'd defo encourage you to stick with it to see how it is in a few months - likelihood is it will be much better

I hear you, I had mine fitted 4th March (so not yet a full month) and since last Thursday have had light spot bleeding/mucus which comes on moreso after I exercise. (last week was would have been traditionally period week so whether that's it, be interesting what happens in a fortnight)

I had an abnormal urine test come back just days after the fitting when the diabetic nurse asked for a sample, looked into the limited app function I have this shows protein in the urine, proteinuria at a high level but then researching into the 'problem' vaginal secretions could easily be distorting results. ((prays))

If I find out anything more later from the gp regards the coil I'll be back.

I had light bleeding and then spotting for about 3 months (on and off, not continuous) and then ... nothing.

Absolute bliss after years of heavy debilitating periods.

Well worth sticking with it for a while to see if it settles down too as it's magic when it does.

I bled for 9 months then had it removed.

Only sensible thing from GP today was to give the coil at least 3 months.

Copperoliverbear · 19/03/2024 18:12

I had this on and off for 10 months but then it stopped.

Topseyt123 · 20/03/2024 17:38

I bled for over a year, often heavily. So I had it removed (had to insist, as doctors kept wanting to give it more time).

It suits some people and not others. All you can do is give it a few weeks and see. The only reason I gave mine as long as I did was because it was during lockdowns, so not easy to get a face to face appointment, which was obviously necessary for the removal.
