Period delay tablets - take a month ahead?

Hoping for some advice with period delay pills and timings.

I'm getting married this summer and depending on my next cycle which varies by a couple of days each time, it looks like I'll have my period for my wedding.

I've never taken them before but have read lots of horror stories of side effects I really wouldn't want on my wedding day.

Has anyone taken period delay tablets a cycle or 2 before a big date to shift your cycle? After the withdrawal bleed, did you find your next cycle was as normal or did your next period start early or late?

TIA Smile

Not tried this. But recently used the Modi Bodi period pants and they're great. Was out from 6am to 9pm in the ones for heavy periods and had no issues.

I wouldn't take them. For a prolonged time tbh, just start taking them a few days before. I find on the occasions I've taken them when I stop them my period is worse as in more heavy and painful, hense why I probably wouldn't use them for more than a week or so.

I'd delay the period before your wedding as you're considering. When I've taken them they have just shifted my cycle so if I was a regular 28 days but delay one to go 35 days, the next one has still been back to 28 days later.
I've used them 2 or 3 times with no side effects and taken the pills from 3 days before due date and stopped when I want my period. I've usually only taken them for 3 or 4 days just to shift my period from being heavy on a special day, and I found I've come within 2 days of the last pill.

I took mine the month before my wedding to shift my period and it worked beautifully and meant I didn’t have to take them for my wedding

UnicornAndSparkles · 10/03/2024 16:03

I took them last year to delay my period over a holiday, they worked perfectly with no side effects, I took 7 days worth rather than the 10 I had purchased as I didn't need the rest. Period arrived a week after taking the last pill. My next period cycle was 26 days, which is about 4 days less than usual for me.

If I were in your shoes I'd take them and be period-free for your wedding.

HanaJane · 10/03/2024 16:11

I've taken them a couple of times for holidays. Worked very well for me and I didn't have any side effects. The first time I did what you're suggesting so I shifted my period to the week before my holiday so I wouldn't be on when I was away, worked like a dream! I think the key thing is that you need a regular cycle so you know when to start taking it

Why don't you try them for your next period so you know what effect they have on you. Then if you are fine with them then just take them again if needed for your wedding.

Norethisterone

Happymam24 · 10/03/2024 16:34

I took norethisterone before my wedding as I hated the idea of being on my period while on my honeymoon.

I started taking them at what I guessed was around a week before my period as my period always started around the same time but never on the same day each month.

I understand some people have bad side effects but different people react differently to it and I personally had no side effects whatsoever and my period returned to normal after I stopped taking them.

MindHowYouGoes · 10/03/2024 16:36

Whenever I take them my periods after are heavier and longer than normal. Take some to try and shift it but see if you can keep some back for your wedding just in case you miscalculated?

I’ve never had any side effects while taking them though

neverclockwatching · 10/03/2024 16:40

I always take the month before - no side effects at all and my periods are HIDEOUS.
About to start taking them for this month to shift my period for next month.
I have a big black tie event when my period is due to be on day 2. Day 2 is my 'period is so heavy it's flooding time '

londonsoph · 10/03/2024 19:15

Yep it's norethisterone - I think there's another medication prescribed as an alternative but this is the usual one.

This thread has made me feel much better - thank you! It's nice to hear some positive experiences - fingers crossed I get the same!

I think I will go ahead with what I was planning, ie take it a cycle or 2 before so I'm mid-ish cycle when my wedding comes. But it's a good idea to leave a bit of wiggle room and have back up pills (and period pants!) just in case my calculations don't quite work out!
