Do you think my letter reads ok?

Hi, I asked my GP if he could confirm a biopsy but he just printed off the discharge letter and told me to ask gynae.

I got given a patient initiated appointment leaflet which say's don't make unnecessary appointments as this could block another woman having a needed appointment so all I can think is letter.

I don't know the consultants secretaries names or anything like that so just sending direct.

Dear xxxx,

I hope this letter finds you well.

Thank you for your time on Monday 4th March, I just wish to query what happened procedure wise so I am clear for my next referral to look into the bowel issues I mentioned Monday.

When I came back on the ward another gentleman came by, who said a biopsy hadn't happened and nothing look untoward, but I got discharged with a letter which states otherwise, and I'd really like to know if I misheard or misunderstood?

After reading the Mirena booklet, I understand you shouldn’t insert the coil for even suspected cancer so I’m hopeful I did hear correct in respect of the above, I’m concerned to be left with a coil that may affect glucose levels as a diabetic. I also cannot understand if you believed it wasn’t a fibroid why this wasn’t made clear on 30th November 2023 when I saw your registrar.

My GP surgery has asked me to direct questions such as these directly to you/the gynae department.

I totally understand if you would like to issue a reply via my GP surgery.

Many thanks again for your time.

Yours sincerely

You can send the letter but I think you should ring them and ask to speak to the consultant's secretary, then explain your queries to whoever that is. I doubt they'll respond to your letter. It sounds as though you've been given conflicting information. Your GP sounds pretty rubbish too - I don't see why they can't follow up on your behalf.

I would also contact PALS (patient liaison) if this all took place in a NHS hospital.
