Really bad lower back pain postpartum

I’m 3 months postpartum with my second and have really bad lower back pain upon moving. It’s in the same location it hurt in late pregnancy! It only occurs when I’m sitting down or standing from sitting, and is worse on one side.

Has anyone else experienced this? What do I do? Private physio? I feel like a wait on the NHS could be years!

It is especially bad after driving, unless I sit completely straight with excellent posture, otherwise my lower back kills getting out.

Hey congrats, i’m also 3 months postpartum with my second :)

Firstly, is it possible it could be something caused by weak stomach muscles as the result of pregnancy? Have you been diagnosed with split stomach muscles or anything like that? Did they check you properly at your 6 week check?

If not, yes I’d recommend speaking to a private physio, but also maybe worth getting a massage and also seeing a chiropractor/osteo?

Thanks - congrats to you too :)

I wasn’t checked over at all at my postnatal check. They asked about contraception and that was all. Can’t say I’ve noticed much difference in my stomach compared to my first pregnancy, it is definitely wobblier and it hasn’t flattened as much as it did with my first but I’d put that down to it being a second pregnancy.

My back doesn’t hurt at all if I straighten it out like lying flat on my back or sitting up with my back touching the back of a seat of wall. It’s sooo painful picking baby up from his crib though!

Ok so first thing I would do is request another appointment with your GP. They should have done a physical examination of your stomach muscles as women do who have a wider gap are referred to physio. Would be good to rule that out.
