Any gynae / obs / nurse / midwife opinions please

Let me preface this by stating I am a midwife and I should know the answer to this!!!!

GP did a spec, lvs and hvs sent, ectropion visible so sent for colposcopy. Consultant noted lots of discharge, ectropion visible so she took a biopsy. Everything has come back NAD and I have been discharged.

GP has no idea. I have no I itching or other relevant health conditions or symptoms. Not on any contraception, not pregnant.. I hope!

Discharge is cream in colour, not very thick but not watery either. There's enough of it to require a change of panty liner mid day to keep clean and dry.

The smell is kind of tangy/sour, almost like strong natural yogurt.. sometimes it's borderline yeasty. I am very aware and conscious of it, can smell it through clothes but partner and best friend swear blind they can't smell anything at all. I do trust them to be honest with me.

Is this just my normal? Any ideas of how I can make the smell go away? I'm not washing excessively or using any mad products.

Probiotics maybe?

Any insights welcome!!

I feel like the smell is strong enough for it to not be normal, just to make it clear. It's not something I've come across in practice before.

Not a UTI either.

I think I would be inclined to treat for thrush anyway using an OTC pack, take a good probiotic and wash your underwear on a hot wash, non bio powder and no conditioner. Make sure your liners and toilet paper are not fragranced. Did they check your urine and test it for glucose?

bluesclues91 · 04/03/2024 17:53

Thank you @endofthelinefinally
I treated for thrush just to be safe a few months ago but no change.
Will dip my urine on Friday.
Any recs for probiotics?

Just another thought. Have you recently had a covid vaccination? I know several women who had similar problems following boosters.

endofthelinefinally · 04/03/2024 18:08

I think a pharmacist might be a good start with the probiotic advice. There are so many now! There is also a gel product that is supposed to balance the pH of the vagina and I cannot think of the name of it. If I can remember I will come back. boots used to stock it, then it became available online only.

endofthelinefinally · 04/03/2024 18:10

Multi-Gyn.

GininMcGlass · 04/03/2024 18:23

Could it be bacterial vaginosis? It gives you a thin white smelly discharge, but I would be surprised if your GP or gynae didn't recognise it, it's not that uncommon. There's over the counter tests and cream for treatment.

bluesclues91 · 04/03/2024 18:54

@endofthelinefinally amazing thank you I will look further into that! Keen for probiotics as it's probably one of the only things I've yet to try.

Not had a covid vaccine for a while.

@GininMcGlass no it's not BV, I've had swabs but thanks for the suggestion!

How old are you OP?
Could be a peri meno symptom?
So the decline/ fluctuation in estrogen causes dryness- it then flips the other way into overproduction of discharge due to the irritation.
Think of it like dry eyes that run all the time!

orangeandpinks · 04/03/2024 19:16

You could try Relactagel? It's for BV, but balances PH levels too.

bluesclues91 · 04/03/2024 19:17

@GinandGingerBeer thanks for responding!
I'm 26 so I hope not!
Never been pregnant.
Periods are a bit irregular, I have slightly long cycles that can be anywhere from 30-38 days but probably average about 35 days.
Periods are heavy and painful.
Most combined pills make me horrendously nauseous, Yasmin is the only one that ever worked for me but not currently on any contraception.
Not taking and other regular medication.
Take a daily multi vit.
BMI 27, active, eat a normal diet.

Trying to give as much info as possible!

@orangeandpinks ooh will look into that too - thanks!

I spelled it wrong

www.relactagel.co.uk/

You can buy it OTC, but I was prescribed it for a not-thrush itching / discharge issue (again not BV).

orangeandpinks · 04/03/2024 19:24

The other thing my GP recommended was to use Femfresh wash. Not the scented ones.

bluesclues91 · 04/03/2024 19:27

Thank you @orangeandpinks , that's really helpful.

I've found this company https://www.yourdaye.com/products/at-home-vaginal-screening/?marketing=1/&gadsource=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIpsezkafbhAMVmK-DBx2c4QyfEAQYAyABEgIu2fDD_BwE

But I don't know if it's a bit naff and just the same as what a HVS/LVS would test for. It's bloody expensive too!

Another vote for Multi-Gyn, it does seem to work wonders for rebalancing things down there

bluesclues91 · 04/03/2024 22:43

Great, thank you!
