Coil, PID, womb lining.

Quick history, 37 years old, PCOS, IVF for children, Laparoscopy 2012 showed some endo.

2 years ago had bleeding for 7 months, scan showed lining of 13mm even after the bleeding. Referred to gynaecology, consultant took one look at my notes & said the bleeding was because of the PCOS & recommended the marina coil - I wasn't keen, but felt it was my only option. It did settle things down, and I've had no bleeding since.

Skip forward to 2 weeks ago, had pelvic pain, fever & started bleeding - went to the doctors, on examination she couldn't find my coil 🤦‍♀️, sent me to a&e where I was told I had pelvic inflammatory disease, likely to be due to the missing coil (which they also couldn't find) Given 2 weeks antibiotics. Had a scan on Thursday & told coil is in OK place. Womb lining 10mm which the lady scanning said is thicker than expected for someone who has the coil.

So I guess my question is - should I be worried about the womb lining being thicker? Should I ask for it to be looked into? it never was when I had the bleeding before. I'm still bleeding now, not much but it's still there, so that's nearly 2 weeks. And I'm still uncomfortable in my back & pelvis.

Sorry for long post.
Would be really grateful to speak to anyone who's been through similar or can offer some advice.
TIA.

I don't have any specific or detailed advice but I'd have a chat with your GP. If they can't give you justifications for what's happening or why they don't think you need a referral (if indeed they say no to a referral) then I'd push hard to see a gynae. They might be willing to refer you already though.

As a starting point, I would say you should explain your concerns and tell them that your expectation of the appointment is a 2-way conversation where you can share your concerns and ask questions. And from their side they can provide you with information to either ease your mind or help you to seek specialist input. Make it clear what you need from them, the clarity actually helps and saves time.

Thank you for your reply 👍.

I've tried seeing the gp this week, but they said they haven't received my scan results & said I need to chase the hospital for them- the hospital told me they would be with the gp within 2 days though 🤦‍♀️. Everything is just a fight!

I'm really struggling to find any info on what a normal womb lining should be.

Thanks again ❤️

It's exhausting when it feels like even the simple things are a battle. Take a breath and chase the hospital. If there is another delay then make a complaint through PALS. One delay - annoying but okay. Two - nope, not okay.

Oh and I wouldn't focus on the womb lining exclusively. Usually it is a constellation of factors and circumstances that warrants further investigation or results in a diagnosis so try not to focus too much on the endometrial thickness, if you can

ThisHonestQuail · 02/03/2024 23:31

I had “thickened womb lining” on ultrasound and it was endometriosis.

Hope you find out soon 🤞🏼

@whatausername thank you for your replies. As you say it's just exhausting to be chasing etc all the time. I rang the hospital on Monday, sat at position 1 on hold for 10 mins, for it to then say there is no one to take your call 🤦‍♀️ left a message. Then someone called back yesterday & left a voicemail to say call that number back if I still need to speak to someone, so I called that number back & it just cut off! So now need to go through the switchboard again 🙄😫. Will try again tomorrow.

@ThisHonestQuail did you? Do you have the coil? What thickness was it? And what symptoms did you have, to get checked? Hope you don't mind me asking ❤️.
