Skin discolouration

Hi, I've name changed because it's really embarrassing.

I have very pale and soft skin and one of the downsides is its patchy and discoloured in places. Most noticeabley around my neck, underarms and between my legs. I wash and shower regularly and use wash scrunchies to scrub the skin. It's always been a problem and tbh it's mortifying because it makes me look dirty and I'm not, I'm really very clean. I've spent years applying fake tan to help disguise it.

Has anyone any experience of getting rid of it or any ideas on how to make it look any better, please.

I’ve also got it between my legs. Quite big patches.

The main symptom of acanthosis nigricans is patches of skin that are darker and thicker than usual. Although acanthosis nigricans is usually harmless, it's best to get any skin changes checked out. Depending on the cause, they may also recommend medicine to balance your hormones, medicine to balance your insulin levels and changing your medicine to one that does not cause the patches. There's no specific treatment for the patches themselves. A skin specialist (dermatologist) may be able to suggest treatments to improve their appearance, but finding and treating the cause is usually recommended first.

Women with type 2 diabetes or PCOS can develop such also.

Do not keep on rubbing those patches of skin.
