slept with a guy 3 years 3 months ago. Last slept with same guy 2 and half years ago. No one else since. No idea if this guy was sleeping with others at the same time. It was a casual thing. No signs of warts on the guy at the time.

During this time I tested positive for HPV - don't know if got it from this guy, due to fact they first starting testing for hpv around the time i was with him. I could have had it before him or not. I don't know. I have previously contacted STI clinic about hpv. They said hpv detected in smear is different to one that causes genital warts and due to the fact i slept with him over 2 years ago, it was highly unlikely i had genital warts if id not had any symptoms.
Last smear 1 month ago I was hpv negative. 2 weeks ago 1 small bump appeared on my labia. Its been there since. No change in size. Could this be genital warts ?

Go to a sexual health clinic and get a full sexual health screen.

My Dr has done a chlamydia test. The sti clinic said they couldn't test for genital warts without warts showing. I think I should now go to get this bump looked at by the clinic

Definitely and just ask for a full screen when you are there too. 20 years ago it was fine to go in and get a full screen I’m not sure what the service is like now as I think it’s been sourced but but just insist you feel a full screen is necessary as it’s effecting you psychologically and you have been told your ex has had an STI.

Is it important that you know where you got HPV from? It is so common I don't really understand why it matters where you got it.

Warts can appear decades after infection. Around menopause women have been known to develop them leading to false accusations of cheating by either party.

@tutttutt you're right, it's not important re the HPV. What is important is that I'm negative, for now.
I'm 50. Not had the menopause yet but I'm around the right age for things to start. In my 20s I slept with quite a few people. Goodness knows where some of them had been.

It's one of the peculiarities of perimenopause. Things that have been dormant can suddenly appear for the first time. I got a fucker of a cold sore around 50. Had never had one ever. This one was heinous. Never had another since.
Same thing can happen with HPV warts.
As you can imagine people not realising this can cause marital tensions as he thinks she must have cheated and she thinks he must have and passed it on to her. That buggar can lie dormant for decades.
