Just as the title says. I'm in a lot of pain in my vaginal canal. It's only relieved when I lay down. I am walking like John Wayne. Im 41 haven't had any rough sex or anything. Not an STI, married 20 yrs. It's like a throbbing, itchy, irritated feeling and I don't know what to do. What would happen if I went to hospital with something like this?

It's not an accident and it's not an emergency. 111 I think.

You can get a test to see if it's thrush or BV. Hope you feel better soon www.canesten.co.uk/discover-canesten-products/canestest-self-test-for-vaginal-infections?gad_source=1&gclsrc=ds

I’m sorry you’re in so much pain. I hope the Canesten works, but perhaps you should still call your local sexual health clinic and book an appointment just in case.

CJ4713 · 10/02/2024 21:34

Did it come on suddenly OP? When lifting something or exerting yourself or was it a gradual thing? The fact is goes when laying down, makes me also wonder if its a prolapse. Personally, I'd squat down and feel for any bulges inside and have a look with a mirror at the outside bits. Looking for any dry skin, tears, discharge, lumps etc.
If nothing else, I'd take nurofen or paracetamol to hopefully take the edge off until you can try a pessary. A&E isn't the right place for this, no.

If you're still having trouble during the week , you might get it resolved quicker going to a sexual health drop in service.

StellaNova1 · 10/02/2024 21:39

Ive had one particular episode of thrush that was as painful as you describe & no discharge either!

I would get the pessary & oral tablet combo, the oral tablet is the only thing that really works for me when its severe

Lucy377 · 10/02/2024 21:48

Examine yourself standing up.
Position a small mirror down there and see if you can see or feel a soft lump there close to the entrance.
If so it's likely a prolapse. Because it goes back into place when you lie down it relieves the pressure. That relieves the heavy sensation.

It's not an emergency, unless you have severe heavy bleeding or very high temperature.

Your comment re not wanting to waste the gps time but being happy to waste a+es time made me chuckle.

No need to be a dick. This is exactly why I asked about the hospital. I never seek medical attention as I am so anxious about bothering NHS staff.

For example, I almost died and let an ectopic pregnancy continue until 13 weeks as I didn't want to bother them. I bled and suffered agonising pain for weeks until I passed out in the street and a stranger phoned 999 for me.

So, I asked because I'm in a lot of pain.
I didn't go to a&e. I'm still in pain. I went to a supermarket and bought a canesten kit. Hopefully it will work.

I'm not being a dick at all! The cost implications are massive. There are very few gynae reasons that require ED, which is surely far more intimidating than seeing a GP?!?

That's a vast statement to make. Isn't it odd that this hospital has a dedicated gynaecological A&E? They must twiddle their fingers because it's so rare to be needed. https://www.liverpoolwomens.nhs.uk/our-services/gynaecology/in-an-emergency/

I suspect the staff who man the gynaecological A&E work in the delivery suite and only go to A&E when a patient comes in. I doubt there are enough emergency admissions for them to stay in A&E round the clock.

AnnaMagnani · 11/02/2024 09:35

Even the website for the Gynae A+E makes it clear that:

1.You have to phone first and be advised to come in
2.It's also the Early Pregnancy Unit

margegunderson · 11/02/2024 11:41

If the thrush treatment doesn't fix it head to a sexual health clinic. Could be BV, peri menopause, lichen sclerosis - all sorts of things.

Somerandomgirl · 11/02/2024 18:53

They'll give you antibiotics without testing if you go
I dont think its thrush as others suggest, the only times i felt like this was when was pregnant (before i even knew, like hedgehog inside...) and when had trichom. Sti once ages ago ...

Somerandomgirl · 11/02/2024 18:55

And u can ring 111 and gp will see you at the hospital near you..but depends where u live... sexual clinics can see u aswell

Missingmyusername · 11/02/2024 19:02

You can go to A&E for any reason. Might not be seen very quick though, I’d rather ring 111 and see what they say.
Have you looked at it? Is anything else, I see lots of posts about lichen sclerosis on here. Please don’t avoid the doctor OP, go to A&E if you are in excruciating pain- it could be something very serious.

Missingmyusername · 11/02/2024 19:03

Not saying it is serious! hopefully will be nothing some cream won’t sort out. But nobody should put you off seeing a professional.

MadamVastra · 11/02/2024 19:04

When I have neglected my vagifem this happens to me

bettybop1234 · 11/02/2024 19:11

Can you go to a pharmacy for thrush cream with anti itchy? It's usually what they use for althetires feet

happygertie · 11/02/2024 19:27

Have you felt for any lumps, I had a bartholin cyst which was agony. Warm baths to soak help and I also used an oil suitable for the vagina to lubricate the area around the cyst to prevent friction and rubbing.
