Bleeding

I'm looking for people who've had similar and know now what was going on...

I'm 40, no children, always had slightly irregular cycles (23-29 days), usually sore, sometimes horrendously so, occasionally barely noticeable.

I had covid for the first time in early December during my period. Next period started early and I've been on since with only two days of very light spotting. Most days it's bad enough to need a change of underwear and there's some pain but nowhere near as sore as my usual period cramping. Lots of clots, too.

I went to the doc day before yesterday and he's prescribed me something to stop the bleeding so they can do a smear. He's also referred me for an ultrasound. When he pressed my belly on the left side, I felt like I was being stabbed on the right near my hip. It was shockingly painful and I nearly hit him to get his hands away.

Does this sound like endo? Or anything else? Or is it a weird effect of the covid? I'm trying to cast it out of my head and carry on about my day but I'm not doing a good job of it...

I had horrendous bleeding in my 50's which turned out to be fibroids. They were growing and causing awful bleeding (flooding) very often. All really horrible and scary at the time. After an ultrasound they gave me the option of a hysterectomy or embolisation. I opted for embolisation but kept putting off the op due to paralysing fear of hospitals and operations. I eventually forced myself to go and get it done and I wish I'd had it done sooner. It sorted the bleeding out although apparently its not a permanent solution - the effects can wear off after several years. Since then I've had mild bleeding but take HRT so I presume that's the cause.

Google fibroids - they're very common in women 40's and 50's and they're much better at treating them these days.

Thank you for answering my post. I've done a lot of Googling the last couple of days about fibroids and it sounds like that's what it might be. Did your symptoms come on suddenly? My cycle was more or less the same up to December and now this. It's getting worse and worse, too. I'm very lucky so far not to have had an awkward accident.

To add to it, I'm due to go away soon, long haul. Now instead of being all excited about the trip, I'm fretting about this. I guess I was expecting it to have eased off by now.

The GP referred me for an ultrasound and a smear, since I'm nearly due. He also prescribed 5 days of tranexamic acid which I haven't started yet as the pharmacist told me not to before flying!

Urgh, I just feel awful and gross

I got a call today to go in for the ultrasound tomorrow.

I had the ultrasound this afternoon around 5pm and at the end of it the radiographer said I'd get a call from my doctor... "tonight?" After a glance at the clock "No... tomorrow. Or you call him tomorrow."

The only thing he mentioned to me was a small cyst on my ovary but he was less chatty during the internal scan.

Adios, sleep... I'm sure it's nothing but try telling that to the catastrophising niggle at the back of my mind.

Ah that’s rubbish that you have to wait. Hopefully it’s nothing to worry about & they ring you in the morning.

Oh I hope they call soon. I think I'm a little stressed as have been itching from head to toe since yesterday 🙃

@Dumbitdown have you heard from the GP?

Nothing yet. I'm taking that as a good sign though - if they were worried it was something serious, they'd have called.
