Hip pain

Hi! I hope someone can help me, please.

Lately, I have had pain in my hip bone on the right side. It’s a constant pain, and I have no idea what it could be. Sometimes, my right thigh and my lower back hurt too. I made an appt with my doctor, but I’m starting to think of the worst-case scenario. Has this ever happened to anyone ?? What could it be? I’m stressed.

Do you spend a lot of time sitting?

Cantbearsedtothinkofausername · 24/01/2024 00:19

I have this but in the left! I went to various Dr's over the years to try and work out what it was. They sent me to the physio who was useless it was only when I couldn't bend down I bit the bullet and went to a private osteopath who diagnosed my condition and although not cured, as it's long term I know what it is and how to fix it when it becomes painful to the point where it's bearable. If you can afford a private osteopath I'd start there.

Edl · 24/01/2024 00:29

What do you have? What is your pain like?

No I spend time standing as well

I have this too. An MRI showed very little of concern and a steroid injection did nothing to help. I've had a number of blood tests through a private doctor and we have ruled out anything sinister. Still no idea what it is. It is not just sore but it has limited mobility. I have hardly any power in my right leg. Im not sure what to do next apart from to lose some weight.

Blackcats7 · 24/01/2024 01:50

Insist on xray or scan. I was fobbed of for years that all I had was hip bursitis, which of course you may have. But mine was osteoarthritis which untreated got worse and worse and is now bone on bone in hip and spine.

Edl · 24/01/2024 03:09

@ApolloandDaphne What did they think it was ?! I’m so scared it’s something serious

@Blackcats7 what is that exactly ?! Is it dangerous .

Does anyone in your family have arthritis?

Edl · 24/01/2024 03:38

@WolvesDiscoandBoogaloo Not that I am aware of.

Bursitis is inflammation of the bursa which is a little sack of fluid in the hip. It is self limiting in 90% of cases but can be very painful. Treatment is mostly rest and anti inflammatories or if not resolved injections into the area which is done by your gp or at hospital guided by ultrasound. No need for g.a. and it is not a painful procedure.
Advanced osteoarthritis on the other hand is absolutely crippling eventually and needs a hip replacement. Sounds like you are years away from this if indeed you do have osteoarthritis but you need imaging done to see exactly what the issue is so treatment can be given to minimise consequences for as long as possible.

@Cantbearsedtothinkofausername what do you have?

ApolloandDaphne · 24/01/2024 07:05

I have arthritis in my back which is easily visible in x Ray but there is no arthritis in my hip.

WolvesDiscoandBoogaloo · 24/01/2024 07:05

Edl · 24/01/2024 03:38

@WolvesDiscoandBoogaloo Not that I am aware of.

The first thing I'd be thinking with joint pain is arthritis of some type.

If you have psoriasis or a grandparent with psoriasis, that might suggest psoriatic arthritis.

CormorantStrikesBack · 24/01/2024 07:07

I have this permanently. One of my SI joints is a bit out of line. Back Exercises and hamstring stretches help.

CormorantStrikesBack · 24/01/2024 07:07

And it was an osteopath who sorted me as well, I’d really recommend them.

Cantbearsedtothinkofausername · 24/01/2024 11:34

garlictwist · 24/01/2024 04:58

@Cantbearsedtothinkofausername what do you have?

@garlictwist weak back muscles. I need to build up my core, so I do dance classes and yoga specifically for lower back and hips. I can really feel it if I don't do either of those things. I hope you get it sorted soon.

ApolloandDaphne · 24/01/2024 23:06

It seems all hip pain is not made equal. There is no way I could do yoga or dancing. I can barely get up if I kneel down and struggle to do up my shoe laces. I would just like to be able to walk normally without pain or restricted movement.

I'm sorry, that sounds rubbish. I assume if it's arthritis there's nothing that can be done via physio or an osteopath?

ApolloandDaphne · 25/01/2024 07:31

@CormorantStrikesBack I don't have arthritis in my hip as the x Ray and MRI showed none. No one knows what is making it sore. I've been to a physio. They can't make it move or make it less sore either. I haven't tried an osteopath. What do they do that's different?

IME they are more hands on, they have sorted various problems for me which 3 different physios didn't sort in months and months and months of physio treatment.

CrispsnDips · 25/01/2024 07:42

My friend has these symptoms, been diagnosed with Bursitis (as mentioned above). Think she’s just having Physio at the minute

Maddy70 · 25/01/2024 07:56

I have bursitis. Ask for a steroid injection its an almost instant cure

Strawberrygirl70 · 25/01/2024 08:09

I had pain in my left hip for a long time, tried stretches etc. I eventually went to a physio who said it was nothing to do with my hip but it was a weakness in my lower back. She did some massage and tens machine treatments and gave me some exercises to do strengthen it. It has definitely helped but does come back if I don't do the exercises for a while. They are mainly'cobra' style but lifting yourself up.

I'm sorry to hear about the pain you're experiencing in your hip bone. It's understandable that you're feeling stressed and unsure about what could be causing it. It's good that you've already taken the step to schedule an appointment with your doctor.
In the meantime, focusing on managing the discomfort might help. Have you considered trying Artik Med's Effective Hip Brace? It could offer some support and relief while you wait for a diagnosis and treatment plan.
Remember, you're taking the right steps by seeking medical advice, and hopefully, your doctor will be able to provide some clarity and solutions.
