Hi the piles I had before giving birth 3 weeks ago have gotten worse after the birth and keep bleeding after bowel movement

gp gave me scheriproct cream been using 10 days
they still bleeding
this morning they said I should go to A&E what are they going to do ?

I also have germaloids cream but haven’t used it
as I’m bf I can’t leave baby alone too long

Get the pile cream and the suppositories, use the maximum you can until it’s under control, then gradually reduce. Make sure you aren’t constipated. Drink plenty of water, a glass every time you feed.

Will try suppositories as well
but the scheriproct suppositories and cream said don’t use more than a week as can make skin thin?

I find a combination of germoloids cream + suppository used at the same time works well. I'd only go to A&E if you're bleeding really excessively (as in, it won't stop) or you're in a lot of pain. My haemorrhoids bleed all the time, sometimes a lot (TMI but sometimes dripping blood into the toilet) and its not a big deal. I've had them on and off for years. Using the cream + suppository combo for a few days after every bowel movement usually sorts them out for me.

Scheraproct is stronger than Germaloids. Go back to the GP and only attend a&e if the bleeding is constant or goes a dark colour.

Is there a particular suppository brand that’s best as scheriproct ones say don’t use more than a week as can cause thin skin?? Are the suppositories only for night ?

the piles don’t seem to fully disappear there must be a way to make them go altogether

germoloids are what I use, cream and suppositories.

DustyLee123 · 15/01/2024 11:14

Read the instructions, I think it’s 3 or 4 suppositories a day, spread them out across the day. Very important for you not to be constipated.

Zok · 16/01/2024 12:46

Yes doc rang me today and said it can take 6months to heal surely piles can’t bleed for that long??
so he doesn’t want to refer me anywhere
and said suppositories after bowel movements won’t stay in

Doesn’t want to give me muscle relaxers either for the rectal shooting pains (proctalgia fugax)

I’m anemic as well and asked for iron liquid they said not available on nhs I think that’s a lie as I’ve seen it before -so I’ve had to get spa tone
I refuse to take the ferrous fumarate tabs

Suppositories won't stay in?! What? Of course they do. They dissolve as soon as you put them in. What an odd thing for a GP to say. Like I said - I swear by germoloids, combination of cream + suppository used after every bowel movement.

They can take awhile to heal, yes. If you treat them regularly they'll improve though.

Is germaloids available on prescription? He was getting pretty annoyed with me today and won’t prescribe iron liquid
also wouldn’t answer the question about using scheriproct longer than a week the leaflet says not to??

No germaloids you can just buy from shops off the shelf, like Tesco. I don't know about scheriproct I've never used it.

Just seen this thread. I've piles for about 4 weeks now and have been on Scheriprot cream for just over a week but the piles aren't going away - does the cream only control them? I'll go into the pharmacy tomorrow to ask for more advice but I actually think they have got bigger even with the cream! I've 5 weeks to go yet until due date so not looking forward to contending with this for another at least 5 weeks!

Why would it only be another 5 weeks? I got piles while pregnant, giving birth exacerbated them! They're here for life. They just become less inflamed/ flare up on occasion.

Hun, thats one of the "joys" of giving birth...give it time, stop stressing, it will all heal .. i know it looks and feels scary but believe me it will get better very soon . And dont worry about leaving baby for 5 10 minutes in its bed/basket, it will be perfectly fine, while u take care of yourself aswell
(For me its the preparation h gel and wipes that gets rid of them, nothing else)

TrumpetOfTheMatriarchy · 19/01/2024 21:18

Also, make sure you are eating the right diet to produce soft stools and drinking plenty of fluid. Mobilising every day will also help. They do go eventually but are bloody sore
Sadly, you won't get treatment on the NHS unless they are really really bad.

Much sympathy, it is so uncomfortable - the pain of mine was awful. The bleeding will reduce in time. Things that help: High fibre diet; loads of water; avoid caffeine and red meat and spicy food; take vitamin c alongside your iron (eg glass of orange juice) to help absorption; never, ever sit for ages or strain on the loo even if you think you need to. Try to avoid sitting on hard chairs (in all truth I could barely sit at all, mine were so bad) - lie on your side to sleep to keep pressure off.

You don’t have to leave your baby alone while you’re looking after yourself - either in a carrycot or simply on a soft blanket on the floor is fine.

I found that a warm (not hot) mini bath with a few drops of tea tree oil in, was very soothing after a bowel movement. You just need a little bit of warm water really to bathe the area.

hope you feel better soon and congrats on your new baby x
