Duct Ectasia

Has anyone had any experience of this? My right nipple has suddenly got a dimple that seems to be related to a duct. No discharge just stinging and now slightly inverted. Dr thinks it's Duct Ectasia and didn't refer me for a scan. I BF until 4 years ago and had problems with milk blisters and blocked ducts. I have recently experienced let-down through holding someone else's baby🙄i wondered if that may have triggered this...any similar experience? Did it go away? I don't know whether to pursue a referral or accept this is what it is

Ex-nurse here.

Statistically what you've been told is likely to be correct. However...... A friend of mine had similar symptoms and I was sure, looking at the problem, that she had Paget's disease. She saw a top consultant who assured her that it was 'nothing' (just from a physical exam). I pushed her to get a second opinion and it was actually breast cancer.

Really hope that yours is fine, but I would definitely ask for more specific checks.

Oh goodness thank you for sharing I will get a second opinion. It's just hard to identify lumps when you have ducts and such in my experience. I will get a second opinion and try to push for a referral. Thank you!

Hi.

i have ductal ectasia diagnosed in October 22. I was 30 at the time. They said it is more common in smokers (I am and was then an ex smoker) and pre menopausal women, however, it can happen for a number of other reasons. It is where the pipes to the ducts widen and collect fluid. It is completely benign. I was offered an operation to remove the duct but because it wasn’t causing issues as such I left it.

i went to the gp due to discharge and they referred me straight away. He said he didn’t think it was anything alarming but whatever it was we needed to find out so it could be treated whether benign or not. I was happy with that. I went to the breast clinic and was diagnosed and given an appointment in 3 months time for a follow up. I didn’t have any other scans just spoke to the consultant about my options and that was that. I still get the discharge now but it’s usually on my pyjama top probably because I’m squishing my boob in the night. Otherwise it doesn’t cause me any issues. If it did though I know I have the option to go get it removed.

I wouldn’t have been satisfied without going to the clinic though so definitely ask for a referral
