Ultrasound due to heavy periods

Hoping for some perspective or advice please.
I’ve got an ultrasound booked for tomorrow night (a cancellation the booking office said) and I am absolutely terrified. Doctor was quite chilled and said ‘oh let’s see what’s going on if there’s a polyp we probably ought to remove it’.
I’ve always had heavier periods and heavier since having DD 7 years ago. Over the last few months I’ve started using a mooncup as I found tampons came out or fell out when I am on the loo or exercising (vaginal births and not good at my pelvic floor exercises) plus liked the thought of them being more environmentally friendly.
Over the last few months now and again I’ve noticed bigger clots. Two of them About 1/5th of my palm (different periods) or the period is ‘gloopy’. Measured about 120ml loss each period. I don’t flood (have once once or twice in last 6 months) because I check my cup regularly but it needs to be emptied twice on day 3 maximum when it’s heavier. Periods are shorter (4 days) and closer 24 days rather than 28 days. No bleeding between cycles. I am 41.
I’m terrified what they will find tomorrow. They must think something is wrong to have referred me.

Have you been checked for anemia? It’s a vicious cycle - the more anemic you get the heavier your periods get.

I haven't got any anaemia symptoms really. Not any more tired than normal. Managing to exercise etc. it's just the heavy period.

You won’t necessarily have symptoms. I’ve been anemic 3-4 times in the last 5-6 years. Each time my symptoms were completely different. It’s worth ruling out. For the sake of comprehensive and conplete treatment.

Yes, anemia stops your blood from clotting, so you lose more blood, so you become more anemic, so you lose more blood. Etc etc. Without a iron infusion or supplements/diet - which need to get your levels high enough that all the works isn’t undone by a heavy period - it just slowly gets worse

No neither did I. And then all of a sudden I was neatly fainting at work. And the restless legs were off the chart annoying!

@Autumcolors

Why don't doctors know this?!

Hi OP,

I have heavy periods and am anaemic, they found the anaemia first then eventually asked if I had heavy periods and sent for US scan

At the scan I was told there was something large where my ovary used to be (had one removed years ago due to an ovarian cyst) and they would speak to my Dr urgently. I was scared! Then Dr referred me to gynae on 2ww. More fear. Had CA125 bloods done, high reading. Had an MRI, then a second US and a meeting with consultant in the middle. Honestly those were the scariest months of my life.

But it turned out to be just a fibroid. Now on iron tablets for anaemia and fibroid is staying put as it'll shrink during menopause.

The point of my reply is, please please don't worry until you have something to worry about. I made myself ill with the worry and for no reason. There are lots of reasons women have heavy periods and I'm sure yours has a simple explanation.

Big hugs

Oh and ovulation is very noticeable for me too, with the symptoms you describe 😊

I'm had my scan. She said uterus looks clear but found a small cyst like structure on my right ovary but not to worry about it. Sid it was unusually located. She would speak to her colleague and see if it needed more follow up.

She said 'cyst like' so it could be cancerous!!

Now I'm petrified what this 'cyst like' 'structure' 'in an unusual place' is.
