I seem to have an uncommon issue, worried

I have a lump. It starts in my labia but extends back into my body. I estimate a few cms diameter. It seems smooth, not really painful, no broken skin. Not hard like bone or muscle, but quite firm (a bit like the feel and shape/size of a small tongue).

It just seemed to appear one day, a couple of months ago. It feels very alien.
GP has has a look, and I'm now on the two week wait pathway, which of course is taking more time than that, so giving me time to worry.

It doesn't sound like anything that Googling can come up with. GP said it wasn't like any Bartholin cyst he'd seen before, although it felt cyst-like, but he really didn't know what it was.

Has anyone had similar or can offer any words of comfort? GP says not to worry, but I've still got another couple of weeks to wait for my hospital appointment, so that's all I can do at the moment!

I have the same or similar. But mine aches and is really uncomfortable 😭
I thought it was swollen veins, like a varicose vein but I really don't know.
Scared to go gp but I know I need to.

ChimneyTots · 01/01/2024 22:33

Sorry to hear this @Pinkyponker

Please go to the GP. The not knowing is solvable at least.

My GP said you could get swollen veins there, but this wasn't a vein (wrong size and colour).

My lump has certainly baffled my GP and I think it's growing, so I'd really like it properly checked now. Feeling frustrated that the two week wait for cancer checks is more than double that now, and that's after waiting for GP appts and a 'go away and come back in a couple of weeks if it's still there'.

Anyone else?

Hopeful bump?

That must be worrying. I'm really glad you won't have to wait more than a couple of weeks to be seen.

@Pinkyponker I hope you get checked out, too.

Best of luck to both of you.

Sounds similar to a lipoma (fatty lump)?

ChimneyTots · 04/01/2024 17:32

Thank you. I found the lump about six weeks ago. Still got more than two weeks to wait for the cancer check.

It is the 'I've never seen this before' from the GP that means I feel completely in limbo.

OP posts:
ChimneyTots · 04/01/2024 17:34

I hope so. But the GP didn't feel sure that it was. And it seems to have grown really quickly. Can lipomas grow that rapidly? Google isn't really helping with that.

Can you afford to get private scans and a consultation? If so you might be able to get an answer a lot quicker. I also had a lump discovered during a smear last year. I was lucky to be scanned and seen within a week. Mine is some sort of benign cyst ( can't remember the name) but it will be checked annually.

Mumaway · 04/01/2024 18:30

Sounds like a common Bartholin cyst but a funny shape, or a less common (but not malignant) blind ending fistula.
Soft tissue tumours of the labia are uncommon. Try not to worry.

ChimneyTots · 04/01/2024 21:24

Thankyou @Turmerictolly and @Mumaway
That's the reassurance I'm craving!

No funds for private appointment, and I have a date for the cancer check, it's just the waiting that's getting to me. I am crossing finger is it a benign cyst, but to be honest, I'd rather it were dealt with than left as it is erm noticeable down there. How big is yours @Turmerictolly?

I know nothing about fistulas, blind or otherwise, but assume I would have pain/other symptoms @Mumaway ? Or some sort of recent trauma or infection? This lump seems to have just blown up for zero reason.

If you’re on the two week wait, I thought you had to be seen within the two weeks? It may be worth ringing the medical secretary of the consultant to check this, or the med sec at your surgery, to check it was referred with in this two week criteria.

Hoping it’s all innocent.

ChimneyTots · 04/01/2024 23:24

Thanks @Riverlee
The two week wait is a month around here, unfortunately. Staff shortages, Bank Holidays, high demand. Only one clinic a week, so I have to wait.
