Nitrofuratoin / antibiotic resistance worries

Hi, I was diagnosed with a uti 3 days ago and prescribed a weeks course of nitrofuratoin for my symptoms. I had blood in my urine at the time and the dip stick seemed to think it was quite bad but hadn't spread to kidneys.
Initially I felt a lot better even though my wee was literally luminous highlighter yellow (almost green!). However on day 4 now and feel like some pelvic pressure is returning. I've read about antibiotic resistance and then urosepsis and now I've got myself in a right worry about what antibiotic resistant UTI's are like and what might happen.
Any advice or ideas?

FYI no temp or tachycardia

You may need a longer, low dose of nitrofurentoin. I took one tablet at night for three months and finally that was long enough to stop my infection from coming back. I’m not sure a GP would prescribe this , I went through a urologist.
I also took a good probiotic, and cut out caffeine and alcohol.
it might be that your infection has gone but your bladder has residual inflammation and irritation.
there is a product called Uralix that you can buy on line which is very good at calming down an angry bladder - it’s expensive but worked very well for me.
that and topical oestrogen (ovestin).

Hi - I do have some treats but generally when I shop I only buy products that have 5g of sugar or less - it’s a real eye opener esp with things like yoghurt. I also take a Biokult tablet each day and eat kefir a few times a week. The nutritionist said that my system was overwhelmed with yeast and that the sugar I was eating was supporting increasing this. I take the Biokult to improve gut biome. For the first six weeks I took one with each meal . I was about a stone overweight at the time and lost 6lbs in the first week! I now no longer need to think about restricting calories and maintain a healthy weight. Before this, if I tried to manage without antibiotics I would get an infection within days and this had been the case for years !

Have you had your urine cultured to identify the problem?

I had a surgical bladder injury that caused a klebsiella and ecoli infections - fosfomycin was the only thing that worked, nitrofurentoin and coamoxyclav didn't.

I agree with recommendation to cut out sugar (and also dairy) if you get repeat infections as candida albicans could be sitting beneath it.

I’m allergic to Nitrofurantoin however I was on a daily dose of Trimethoprim for over a year due to recurrent UTIs. It turned out I needed vaginal oestrogen not antibiotics and since I’ve stopped them I’ve not had a UTI.

I do take a daily dose of D-Mannose, too. I take Bladapure capsules that I buy from Amazon. I usually take one last thing at night, but if my bladder feels a bit sensitive I take one in the morning too.

I still don’t add sugar to tea and I don’t eat a lot of sugar on a regular basis but find I can eat it in quantity without a problem but I wouldn’t go back to eating it as I did. I also take probiotics and kefir to balance my gut biome.

Took the nitro last evening. Weird scratching sore throat and I couldn't cough, also burning hot. GP said I should have taken some antihistamine. I have femofexadine in the morning, apparently I should have taken another.

Today was given trimethoprim took one an hour ago. Wish me luck.

I was given blissel estrogen last week but with all the loo visits GP said to leave it until the UTI has settled.

I've ordered D mannose and some cranberry gummies.

am on the second box of cranberry sachets.

I kinda knew from reading on here that I needed estrogen gel for the atrophy. They've tried, betnovate, Gina, double base gel, none worked. I'm hoping the estrogen will.

Does sugar make it worse?
