Still getting regular periods 18 months after sub-partial hysterectomy

I had my womb removed but opted to keep my ovaries and cervix. I was told there was a small chance I would get a bit of bleeding afterwards. But I have been bleeding every month on a regular basis. I need to wear sanitary pads. And it’s getting heavier and heavier each month. Last month a huge clot came out when I was having a shower. Today when I went for a wee I felt a lot of clots come out and blood was mixed in with the blood. I even felt some cramping like I used to get before I had my operation.

I had to have my hysterectomy because I had a huge fibroid that was making me flood huge amounts of blood every time I had my period. I’m really hoping I don’t have to put up with this all over again if it keeps getting worse.

what worries me is that whenever I google to find out bleeding after hysterectomy nothing comes up other than to say it’s really rare and you don’t get a period after a hysterectomy.

When I had my hysterectomy the consultant was present a trainee doctor was also in attendance and I’m sure I remember being told he was going to do the actual removal of my womb. Mine was done laparoscopically. I just think they have accidentally left behind part of my womb and this is why this is happening.

I was told there is no risk of getting pregnant after a hysterectomy but if they have accidentally left part of my womb behind surely there is still a risk given that I have my ovaries and cervix? Wouldn’t that be a molar pregnancy.

Ive spoken to the gp but they don’t seem too bothered 😕

I was advised during a consultation that if I kept my cervix, and there was even a tiny bit of womb tissue remaining attached, then I could still have periods. It’s the reason I chose total hysterectomy. I had had enough of horrendous periods with my fibroids and endometriosis.

If you still have ovaries there is a very rare risk of abdominal pregnancy.

No idea why this only says up to a year. If your dr isn’t helpful maybe ask to be re referred to gynae, maybe they could do ablation or something? Or at least scan to see how things look.
You may experience a light period for up to a year if you have a partial hysterectomy. This is because you may have remaining endometrial lining in your cervix. If you have a total or radical hysterectomy, you won't experience menstrual periods again.30 Jan 2019

Bleeding After Hysterectomy: Is It Normal & When to Call a Doctor

Bleeding after hysterectomy can be normal, but if you have too much bleeding, new bleeding, or heavy bleeding, it could mean there is a problem. Here's what bleeding to expect after your hysterectomy and how to tell if you need to see your doctor.

I don't like that the GP was dismissive like this. If you read the article from PP you'll see any heavy bleeding should be reported to GP. What's the point in reporting it if they don't do anything? It would be different if they made a plan to watch and see what happens next month. Clots really doesn't sound right many months after a hysterectomy.

The one year thing makes sense as clearly part of the body will be shrivelling up from being surgically excised. These natural processes can take a very long time. But the clots bother me, to be honest. Did the GP even say to come back in a month or two if it doesn't stop?
