How to check lumpy breasts?

Weird question but I was reminded to check my breasts for lumps today. I just have, and my only thought was 'well there are lumps everywhere so how do I know what's normal or not?'. Some are bigger than others, some smaller. I just seem to have lumpy boobs (especially since breastfeeding). Upon googling, all I can see is that worrying breast lumps can be hard, soft, rough, smooth and everything in between. Now I'm in a lumpy boob rabbit hole. So, my question, how do you know when to worry when your boobs are naturally lumpy?

Following with interest, as I have exactly the same worry. Both of mine feel lumpy all over so have no idea what to watch out for.

I have lumpy breasts. Don't a lot of women? The doctor has told me that the recommendation now is for 'breast awareness'. Know what is normal for you and report any changes. Also, examine them after a period. They are less lumpy then.

That's normal. The key is doing it often enough you notice when something changes.

Difficult isn't it because they never seem to feel the same whenever I check, or I just can't remember what they felt like the month before. It isn't something I lose sleep over but I do have a family history (both grandmothers)

i thought this was one reason why self checking for lumps is no longer particularly encouraged.

It's important to check under your armpits too

I have very lumpy breasts. I did have a breast clinic referral a few years ago due to one very strange hard lump appearing which turned out to be a blocked milk duct. The doctor there said to me it will be better once I'm 50 and start getting mammograms as it can be hard to tell anything is wrong with lumpy tissue. I was 29 😕

I've just hit 50 and had my first mammogram. I'm not sure it helps in some ways as the mammogram is only for women without concerning lumps and symptoms. It's a general screening. The doctor also told me it can change in a month. If you have dense breasts, there's more chance of them missing something. So I've had my mammogram, been given the all clear, but don't feel like I'm off the hook at all in being aware.
