What was your experience of a hysteroscopic resection?

I'm hoping to have a hysteroscopic resection, where a camera and small instrument is put through my cervix and into my womb to remove a submucosal fibroid.

I've been trying to conceive for 2 years, I have had 2 pregnancies that were unsuccessful and I'm not saying this is to do with the fibroid but thought it may up my chance. I also have heavy periods was so heavy that I had a blood transfusion caused by fibroids.

Has anyone had a hysteroscopic resection? What was your experience? Were you awake or under general anesthesia? Your recovery time? Any pain? If you were trying to conceive how long after the surgery were you allowed to try again?

I had a polyp removed via hysteroscopy. I had it done privately (for speed) and couldn’t afford the general anaesthetic. I would recommend the general if possible. I did find it painful but I got through it (just). The pain didn’t last though - I recovered pretty much immediately. We conceived the next month.

@Dinosaurus86 thank you for sharing, I am going private, I spoke to the GP today who is doing the letter for me for the insurance company. I'm too scared to be awake, I've read some people they get local anesthesia injected in their cervix. That's great you conceived so quickly.

I had a hystereoscopy under GA. Where I live, they are not offered with local, everybody gets the GA.

Recovery was fine, no issues at all even on the day.

@LovelaceBiggWither thank you for sharing. I had a hysteroscopy and i was wide awake no pain relief but it was just to look inside no surgery I was petrified. So if it included removal I would want GA for sure.

God I can't even imagine having that done with no pain relief or anaesthetics. Good luck with it all.

I have had this exact surgery under General Ansethetic. No pain and very little bleeding afterwards; not in comparison to the awful bleeds I was used to. The worst thing was the GA which left me feeling dizzy and weird for a few days.
Surgery seems to have largely solved the problem, touch wood.
I have PM'd you.

@Atishooooo thanks again for you PM, it really is helpful and detailed, I'm really hoping the surgery does make a difference, no more dreading heavy periods every month.

I had it 5 years ago under GA, no pain and minimal bleeding. Periods have stayed much lighter.

@Auldspinster wow this gives me hope. 😊
