Recurrent thrush…help!

Name changed for this, but have been on mn for years…

Has anybody got advice about how to stop recurrent thrush? Or why it may be suddenly occurring?

I have had thrush a number of times since my teens, it’s previously only been when I have been on antibiotics, or started a new relationship (and suddenly had a lot sex!)

Neither of these two are true at current, however I have had three bouts now over the last 5-6 weeks.

Around a month ago I stopped taking amitriptyline, as we are thinking about ttc in the new year. I was only on a low dose, due to IBS, which is largely well controlled now. I did read that amitriptyline has antifungal properties, so I am wondering if stopping this has made me more susceptible to thrush, however it was only after the 1st recent bout that I stopped.

Has anybody had similar re suddenly getting thrush repeatedly, and how did you break the cycle? Each time I have had either the pessary or the tablet, plus used the cream for relief.

i swear by these, everyone I know that takes meds for a bowel condition suffers from thrush more including me, not had it since I started these 3 years ago. I was googling one night for answers and these were recommended.
also never get ill anymore, nails and hair grew more. I have recommended them to so many people I wish I was on commission haha

I can’t comment regarding the IBS and meds but a few years ago I kept getting thrush for months. In the end I went to dr and they gave me a pessary and told me to use canesten cream. It went quickly but kept recurring so I went back to dr. Turned out my partner kept reinfecting me, dr said quite often men can have it but no symptoms. As soon as he was using the canesten cream too it went and never had it since.

That’s a really good point, perhaps that is it and that he’s just not had any noticeable symptoms.

Nothing OTC works for me. After a few years, a new doctor joined the practice and has gave me a box of 3, 150mg fluconazole tablets. One to be take per month. It's been amazing. Before that, I was getting prescribed an internal cream, had to push it in tampon style, (edited to add: Gynodaktarin was the name!) That was to be used morning and night and had to be lying down for over an hour each time to give it time to work. That was also great but not very convenient in the mornings.

Mine was guaranteed at every period. Since going on contraception which stopped my periods, it was every 2-3months I had it recurring. It's so depressing going through it constantly.
