Lower abdominal and back pain every day

When I lay down at night, especially if I lay on my stomach, I get lower back pain and abdominal pain / pressure.

It’s generalised across my lower back. It twinges in certain places in my pelvic / front lower abdominal area. It’s somewhat similar to period pain… except every day… and I don’t have periods any more. It doesn’t really bother me when standing or sitting.

Has anyone experienced this? Any idea what it could be? I am on combined HRT, started a few months ago.

Endometriosis?

Thanks, I wonder. I’ve had pelvic ultrasounds recently to check on a long standing fibroid and they didn’t say anything about endometriosis. I don’t know to what extent you have to be looking for it to find it…

Hi @blueskiesandsun I have lower back pain and lower abdominal pain too which sounds like yours. I can’t lie on tummy etc. I’ve had it since end Aug but the back pain has eased up a lot but the lower pelvic pain is now daily (but mild). I have it worse standing and walking for lengths of time, but I also feel sore now lying down on my back when I wake in the morning.
I have had blood tests and an ultrasound and am being referred to gynecologist now. My blood tests were fine but I think my uterus lining is thick and my uterus was a bit ‘bulky’ per GP examination.
At the scan they found a polyp too but it’s so minute i don’t imagine it’s responsible. I had a lot of bleeding in October but that’s stopped. Since then I often feel sore/crampy as if period due but nothing happens. It’s all a mystery as I’m going through meno and on HRT, but also stopped the POP mid-Oct and that (I think) brought on a dreadful period. (Hard to tell if period or abnormal bleeding as I am not certain what stage I’m at due to minipill and previous high FSH levels)

Sorry this may be no help to you but when I saw your post was about back and abdominal pain thought worth sharing!
They diagnose Endo via laparoscopy, not usually seen on ultrasound. I’ve had this operation in the past (30 years ago!!)
Do they think your fibroid is causing your pain? What are they going to do next?

blueskiesandsun · 04/12/2023 22:28

Sorry to hear you’re suffering too. I feel bloated so “bulky” resonates!

I’m not sure what they will do next if anything. The fibroid has calcified and not changed compared to previous scans so they reckon that’s unlikely to be a factor.

I had an ovarian cyst previously too but it was checked and had resolved on the second scan. The u/s was ok otherwise so they weren’t too interested in following up further.

I ought to make another GP appointment really… but I’m putting it off and in case it’s early HRT side effects and it settles. (While I’m anxiously consulting Dr Google and posting on mumsnet, obviously…)

How about you, do you know what your next steps are?

Hi perhaps your/my symptoms might possibly be either endometriosis or adenomyosis. I should stop trying to Google it too though. I had convinced myself before the US scan that I must have a fibroid the size of a grapefruit in there and I don’t even have one 😂 .
My GP told me the gynae will probably do a Pipelle biopsy. I think this is because my endometrial lining was 11mm thick just after my period (if that’s what it was). When I google it, this something they do to rule out cancer, but I don’t even have an appointment through yet.

You might be best making your GP visit now, as everything takes so long, its good to get the next ball rolling.
Best of luck!
