What’s your period like now age 42-44?

I’m 43 my period is pretty debilitating today.

It’s day 3 probably my heaviest day of 5 days.

My cycle varies from 23-27 days. I have pretty bad PMT the week before. Very low mood, just very sad. I’m not overly irritable, just really sad.

I also suffer from insomnia 1-2 days before my period. It’s awful.

I could barely keep my eyes open last night in bed for 1015pm slightly disturbed night of sleep.

I work for myself so I can have an off day. But I don’t know how I’d cope if I didn’t work for myself.

Firstly thank you to you all for sharing your stories!! This is so so frustrating to see so many of us suffering in a very similar way.

I too can perhaps every two months get migraines, day 2 of my 5 day period (today) I just want to shut myself away! Last night I could barely stay awake. My therapist saw me last Tuesday and I was in such a bad way she was worried, I did email her and say I’ve started my period as I was in such a very low mood.

Who might be the right professional? My GP has put me in sertaraline.

Im now considering the coil.

I’m 43 and even after having periods for 30+ years I still get the monthly surprise of “ah that’s why he/she/it has been pissing me off this week” when they appear!

Emotionally it is irritability and chocolate cravings

Physically they come and go with not much of an issue. Every 30-33 days and last for 3

I don’t want to start any conspiracy nonsense but I definitely noticed a change in my cycle following my first covid vaccination (I am very much for the vaccine before anyone comes for me) but my periods did go all over the place for about 6 months post vaccination. I have never had period pain since then. Don’t even get cramps anymore whereas before I would get severe cramps when I was clotting

However I did turn 40 at the same time so could have easily been an age thing

44 - had an ablation privately at 38 due to horrendous clots and bleeding bi weekly

Period every 60-80 days which mean 2 days of cramping and then one morning where I wipe brownish after my morning pee

That's it

However I'm on hrt oestrogel 2 pumps , daily utrogestan tablet , daily low dose testosterone and bi weekly vaginal oestrogen pessary. Despite this my joints hurt and my body shape is changing from hourglass to blob

I'm 43. I've been regular at approx every 28 days for as long as I can remember then last month about a week before I was due on I got terrible cramps and spotting. Then nothing for a few weeks, then more cramps and spotting. 7 weeks after I expected my period I came on. Except it was ridiculously heavy. I'm a teacher and last Monday at work I went to the toilet just as the bell rang at 9 to tell students to go to form time but by the end of lesson 1 (90 mins later) I had leaked and had to change my underwear and tights. I had to get someone to cover the start of my second lesson. For that whole day and the next I had to change every 90 mins at the latest. The cover teacher told me that I looked really pale obviously due to all the blood loss. I'm very much hoping that it doesn't happen again but will have to go to the doctors if it does as I felt awful.

Cycle varies between 21-39 days and lasts 3-8 days.

Night sweats and migraines during my period.

Awesome innit.

dragonmummy17 · 03/12/2023 23:35

Almost 42. My cycle changed 2 years ago and is now really varied... anything from 14 to 60+ days. Cycle length and heaviness varies too. Only thing predictable is the anger 2 or 3 days before, and the night sweats are vile

LovedMyLastNameItHadToGo · 04/12/2023 17:22

It’s the insomnia for me 2 days before. And then then the two days of literally flooding and clots. No one has said it’s abnormal and I’m taking this supplement that came recommended to me by a nutritionist.

@Lovemusic82 i need to find another GP!!
what sort of HRT are you on?

I am in oestrogen gel (one pump) and progesterone tablets (2 a day for 12 days of my cycle). Some of my symptoms have improved and others haven’t but I have only been on it for a month, GP told me to give it 3 months.

Tarkan · 04/12/2023 18:24

I'm 42 and mine are awful now. I thought they were bad as a teenager but I had long cycles then at least. They've definitely shortened and mine are so heavy for a day or two at first that I'm changing a super plus tampon every hour. I'm also getting a couple of random days of bleeding mid-cycle, usually around the time I should be ovulating but at other times I've had massive clots just come out of nowhere.

I'm really wary of going to the doctor for anything hormonal as I had an absolute nightmare on hormonal birth control when I was younger but I know I'll have to go at least speak to them if it gets any worse. I just want them to stop totally now tbh. DH and I have been unable to conceive for over a decade so it just feels like an extra little slap in the face every 3-4 weeks.

Inyournewdress · 07/12/2023 02:12

OP the Sertraline is almost certainly the cause of the night sweats.
For a lot of people it eases off as your body adjusts to the drug but it might happen again for a while when dosage changes.

LovedMyLastNameItHadToGo · 07/12/2023 10:14

Thanks @Inyournewdress !!! It’s deffo causing a lot of night sweats!!

I hope they ease off soon, such a nuisance!

weightlossnow · 07/12/2023 13:27

I will be 41 nxt month & I have always had regular periods every 3 weeks which is annoying because I suffer from hormonal acne which breaks out 2 weeks before period and at this age, I am walking around with acne and acne scars like a teenager.

I also do have night sweats which is so contradictory because I am still having regular periods. I don't know if this is normal or common.

I have tried everything but nothing works for my hormonal acne and I am now exploring asking the GP for a way to stop my periods perhaps that will help my acne so that I can be skin confident for once in my like.
