Endometriosis pain relief

Hi all,

Anyone that suffers with endometriosis, can you tell me what you have been prescribed for then pain?

I've had both Naproxen and Mefenamic Acid. They don't seem to be working much lately and cause my stomach to burn a little. I take them with food and a stomach liner. I don't want to keep taking these.

I had some left over codine from my laparoscopic procedure. I have used these for my pain during my period and they worked but I've ran out. When I last asked my GP about what other pain medication I can take, they said paracetamol (I had to hold me laugh in!!!)

If you are taking naproxen these days they like you to take omeprazole with it.

I got (gently!) told off at my last meds review.

Co-codamol which is a codeine-paracetamol mix is very effective. Available in pharmacies no prescription needed.

They tend to be very fussy about prescribing codeine on its own these days.

Slow release diclofenac really helped me, as did the contraceptive pill

You could try an tens machine. I've got a myoovi and it helps ease the pain a lot. There's also cheaper ones on amazon.

Thanks for the recommendations. I take omeprazole as I should and take food before but I still get that gurning feeling in my stomach. I have an appointment this afternoon to discuss it. If they recommend paracetamol again it will take every ounce of me to not hang up on them. I'm going to look into a TENS machine

I have deep infiltrating endo. All around my bowel and they put me on monthly prostap injections to stop me ovulating and put me into menopause. That was a nightmare to get used to. Didnt have a period for a few months and then was put on hrt and now get monthly bleeds but not as bad as before. I'm waiting for surgery and have been waiting a long time as they said they need bowel surgeons and gynae surgeons because of the way it is everywhere. Cocodamol was prescribed and it helped but it caused me really bad constipation which caused more problems as he endo is all around my bowels and tightens them which led to me straining and passing out on the toilet a few times. They also gave naproxen but with both the cocodamol and naproxen I get very tired and as I'm working and have two children, I can't sleep my life away high on meds. Tens machine really takes the edge off and I was sceptical at first but pleasantly surprised. I have a high pain threshold but during a flare up I'm neither use nor ornament

My specialist offered pregabalin, but I wasn't keen. Where the bowel is affected they also recommend buscopan and low fodmaps diet as per IBS. I didn't do low fodmaps as honestly I'd rather be in pain than give up garlic, onions etc so ultimately had a hysterectomy, although obviously that's not the right choice for everyone.
