Spotting from Vagina after bowel movement

Lollyl88 · 30/11/2023 10:21

Hello.
Recently I have been experiencing spotting from the vagina after a bowel movement. I have been checked for infections. All clear. Smear test sent me for coloscopy and biopsy but also all clear. Has anyone else experienced this? It’s not enough to wear a pantyliner and only when I wipe. Any ideas? It’s worrying me but GP not very helpful. Anyone had the same?

Prolapse? Or ovarian cyst?

Lollyl88 · 30/11/2023 10:24

Thanks. I'm awaiting a scan to rule out fibroids? Im not aware I have a prolapse ie i have no discomfort. Is this something you have experience of?

Professionally, yes (I’m a sexual health nurse). If you came to me as a patient with these symptoms, I’d be referring you for an ultrasound to check for cysts and fibroids, and even if all clear I would still refer you to gynae.

Are you on any contraception?

Lollyl88 · 30/11/2023 10:33

Thank you. No not on any contraception. It also doesn't happen every time - it tends to be the week before and after my period. I'm waiting for an ultrasound so that's reassuring I've been referred for that.

It's not bothering me but it is a bit worrying as I've not experienced spotting outside of my period.

So it ultrasound comes back clear I should ask for a gynae referral?

I have that sometimes. I put it down to having a coil fitted in June. Assumed it was from the pressure.

I also have prolapses.

Didn't really give it a second thought.

Moredarkchocolateplease · 30/11/2023 10:34

I mean it happens every now and then not just after the coil was fitted.

Lollyl88 · 30/11/2023 10:37

Thank you. How do you know you have prolapses? Is it something that's been diagnosed because of an issue or was it discovered in routine appointments. I always assumed that I'd know about it if I had a prolapse. I have had two children DaffodilSmile

This happens to me very occasionally and I'm one year into menopause.

I have a progesterone coil and I've had a colonoscopy which was clear, I don't worry too much about it.

I experienced similar spotting (after bowel movement but also sometimes after sex) and was subsequently diagnosed with an ectropian cervix.

ChickpeaPie · 30/11/2023 10:51

I get this occasionally, around my period like you described. I put it down to a bit of residual blood coming out when I strain, as it’s usually only if I’m constipated. I haven’t been worried enough to see anyone about it.

Thanks very much. Out of interest was it a GP or a gynae who diagnosed ectropion cervix?

@Lollyl88 i went for an internal last year and was told I had rectocele and cystocele. I didnt know, assumed that everyone had to push on their perineum to poo after they've had children!

So it was an unpleasant bit of news. I'm 45 and was told they are related to my menopause.

Lollyl88 · 30/11/2023 13:42

@Moredarkchocolateplease ahhh that makes sense! Sorry to hear that. I don't have any other symptoms so I guess I have to wait for the scan! I'm 37 so hoping it's not menopause just yet! Thanks so much for replying Smile

@Lollyl88 Hi I know this thread is a few months old, but just wondering how you got on?

Tomselleckhaskindeyes · 25/04/2024 15:45

Is it definitely coming from your VJJ? I had bleeding from my bottom. I did think it was coming from the front but it turned out to
be appendicitis is of all things.

Lollyl88 · 25/04/2024 16:20

Hi @Loopylou7219. No worries. Yes so I had an ultrasound on the nhs and they gave a diagnosis of adenomyosis. GP said no further action. But a couple of months later it was still bothering me so I went back to the GP and queried whether they thought it was definitely adenomyosis as I don't suffer from painful or heavy periods - typical symptoms of adenomyosis. She couldn't really answer my question. So I had a referral to a gynaecologist and went private. Had that appointment last week. He said the scan report was too brief and he couldn't see the scan as done on the nhs so sending me for another one privately. I've got that in a couple of weeks. Original scan everything came back normal apart from suggested adenomyosis so gynae thinks that is what is causing the spotting just pre-period and that not to worry about it. No treatment for it. But he's just going to double check with another scan 👍

Are you experiencing the same?

@Lollyl88 Thank you so much for replying, I really appreciate it. I'm glad everything seems ok for you, sounds like youre just waiting on confirmation that everything is ok. Yes I have had a couple of incidents of the spotting but only when constipated (sorry tmi) no spotting outside of periods normally. Will book an app to see a doctor but just googling (as you do) for some ideas that aren't scary!

Thank you again for replying 🙂

Lollyl88 · 25/04/2024 17:52

@Loopylou7219 No worries. I too did a lot of googling and turned into a health anxiety nightmare lol! I don't know how old you are but gynae told me adenomyosis is very common in women over 30 and have had more than one child. I tick both of those boxes. Always best to get stuff checked otherwise you end up worrying about it. Hope all goes well. 😊

@Lollyl88 I'm normally very relaxed about health things, but not so much as I'm getting older! I am 37 and have two children so yes it could be, thank you again 😊

Lollyl88 · 06/06/2024 08:44

@Loopylou7219 did you manage to get sorted in the end?
