Possible uterine prolapse

Hi all,

So I think I have a uterine prolapse. I contacted my GP last Friday via email and was given an appointment on Monday. When I arrived it ended up being a nurse who was unable to do an internal exam. I now have an appointment on 19th December. I am being unreasonable to ring back and ask for something sooner? It is quite uncomfortable and it's making me feel anxious. Does anyone have any experience of this?

Thanks

I have bladder, uterine and bowel prolapses. I felt very freaked out at first but now don't even think about it.
In my experience it's quite a slow process. First you get referred to a urogynocologist (which can take weeks), then they'll probably do a few months of pelvic floor exercises. Depending on the severity of the prolapse they might recommend surgery. Pessaries are also an option.
I personally was put off by the thought of surgery when I heard it often fails. However, I do know people who've had surgery abd are pleased with the results. My prolapses don't really bother me at the moment - if they did I'd try a pessary first.
Can I ask how old you are? If you are post partum the prolapses usually heal to a great extent after a year or so. If it's not a post partum prolapse then they'll find the best options for you.
Try not to worry.

Thank you for the reply and reassurance. I am 38. My youngest is four. He and his sister were both fairly big babies being 8lb and 10lb3oz.

Agree with the previous poster, any investigations and treatments will be a slow process so don’t expect anything to change overnight.
I had surgery for bowel prolapse around 10 years ago but it’s now failed. I can have it redone but they have recommended waiting as long as possible as I’m only 40 so unlikely to last into old age and whilst a second surgery is fine, a third would be difficult.

Only one doctor at my GP practice was trained to fit pessary rings and she was part-time but she let me attend an appointment with her at another clinic as I had to attend a few times before we found the right size pessary. Maybe there is some way you can track down a local practitioner with the right training rather than having to wait three weeks.
