Continuous spotting - trauma to cervix from sex?

Got a bit carried away with sex last week and spotted after, although no pain after. This was just before ovulation. From about 1dpo to 5dpo (today), I have been spotting continuously. This is obviously way too early for either pregnancy or period.

I have also had a cervical screening and various STI tests last month which all came back clear. I track my basal body temp, and all the temps are high so surely can't be low progesterone? Never spotted like this right at the start of my luteal phase.

So I can only assume the spotting is from trauma to my cervix? Has this happened to anyone? Will it just keep bleeding on and off until it finally heals?

The bleeding goes from bright red, to brown, then sometimes back to red again, almost like a wound keeps bleeding then healing.

Next period is due in about 7 days so obviously if it continues past my next period then I will have to phone the doctor. Any advice or experience welcome.

And just to add that when I "strain" on the toilet, the bleeding seems to get worse. So looking likely to be some kind of tear on my cervix?

How worried should I be? What can I do?

Hi Op, how is it going.. I would get the bleesing checked ro confirm whether or not its just a tear to the ceevix. It sounds like a bit too much bleeding but hopefully its nothing sinister

Hi, still bleeding but seems to have slowed down compared to yesterday. The blood now ranges from dark red to brown so assuming older blood rather than fresh blood.

I'm going to see how it goes for the next 24 hours, then I might try to book a GP appointment. It doesn't help that appointments are so hard to book these days! I'm hoping that whatever it is will just go away on it's own. If I didn't track my cycle so religiously, I would have just assumed this was an early period.

@needadvice111122 Hello. Did you get to the bottom of your spotting at all? Currently going through a similar thing myself!

Sorry, haven't been on here for a while.

So since making the post, I was spotting every cycle so I made changes to my lifestyle, and this cycle just gone was the first one where I haven't spotted at all now.

I would say the initial heavy early spotting was from trauma to my cervix. And then following that, it was my own hormones that were imbalanced.

Can I ask what lifestyle change you have made please ?

Of course! So I've always been fairly healthy anyway so the changes that I did make weren't drastic.

I started eating more fruits to up my vitamin C intake, and also taking a daily iron supplement (as I do suffer from anaemia anyway). The biggest change I made was switching to lower intensity workouts during my luteal phase. I heard this can help with progesterone levels, which then minimises spotting.

I think the change in exercise during my luteal phase has been the biggest factor for my spotting going away, as this is the only thing that I have never tried before. It also means that as soon as my period starts, I then have even more energy to hit the high intensity workouts even harder!
