Vaginal Microbiome Testing

Has anybody taken a vaginal microbiome test and taken the results to a doctor for treatment? Seems like there's a real lack of understanding amongst British medics surrounding the vaginal microbiome. Other than BV, thrush and some STIs, doesn't seem like anything else is possible (such as aerobic vaginitis / DIV). Whereas looking across the pond, seems the ObGyns there treat it all.

There was a thread on here about a clinic in Greece where you can send your menstrual blood and they can identify loads of stuff that isn’t tested for in the UK. I can’t remember the details but might be worth looking into. I think it was about £150 and they could send a prescription that can be taken to a uk chemist.

Thank you for this whole new thing to worry about that I wasn’t aware of before 😂

I've been passed from pillar to post with clinicians saying I don't have BV / thrush but my pH seems quite alkaline and wondering whether it could be AV. And even if I did pay for a test, what would be the point? Sure, I'd know a thing or two about the strains causing the problems but seems pointless if I can't get a medic to prescribe anything right?

I’m pretty sure that the Greek clinic could provide prescriptions for the meds that can be cashed in the uk. I’ll see if I can find the thread.
I’m currently being investigated myself for a mystery gynae issue so might try it myself.

Thanks @Helenahandkart
Isn't it awful that our symptoms aren't being taken seriously

@PrincessProcrastinate
yes, that’s the one! Don’t know why I couldn’t find it.
I hope it’s helpful to you.

I've started taking acidophilus and that's helping. I think mine is due to the coil (hormone one). Its made a difference within days.

PrincessProcrastinate · 09/11/2023 21:27

@Helenahandkart thank you. Will give it a whirl!
