Bath after Lletz?

quietlyspoken08 · 02/11/2023 19:15

Did anyone have a bath as normal after having Lletz treatment? I had it done today and the leaflet I was given says I can bath and shower as normal but I have read many things online saying don't bath!

Would love nothing more than a soak to help with the pains

I had mine 11 years ago now and was told not to have a bath. Showers were OK though. Advice may have changed I wouldn't put any bubble bath or products in the water if I had a bath you don't want an infection after your LLETZ.

Thank you for the reply. I risked it, no products and didn't stay in long and it's done me the world of good.

I had a LLETZ about 2 months ago. I was told by the nurse and the leaflet not to have a bath or sex for 4 weeks. I broke both rules at about 3 and a half weeks. I was desperate for a bath!

It's really strange that the advice differs! I have re-read my leaflet loads of times and it definitely says bath and shower as normal. Hope I haven't done any damage for a bit of comfort but I have never wanted a bath so much in my life!

The advice is different in each bloody trust! It’s not nice for patients to not know where they stand. I think as long as you just have pure water with nothing added you should be fine. This is only my experience but I didn’t have much bleeding until about day 5 and then fuck me it was a nightmare. Stock up on lots of thick pads (no tampons) and make sure you take it very very easy for the next two weeks. No heavy lifting or faffing about with laundry baskets (don’t ask). Wishing you all the very best.

Thank you. Yes it's frustrating you would think the advice would be the same! Will stay away from any washing baskets for the foreseeable

I was told no bath no swimming no tampons no sex... but presumably got infected anyway as I had a massive haemorrhage on halloween night(!) losing 4 pints and ended up with blood and platelet transfusions in hospital. I had no signs of infection and no infection markers showing in bloods. So no real confirmation of what happened. I had ran about playing with a 4 year old earlier that day but rested up until then. Apparently I'm just 'unlucky'. But I would do anything to not have had that experience, so maybe playing it safe is best.

I wonder if the varying advice is dependent on varying degrees of excision? I had a lottt removed (he said about 1/4 of my cervix) and I assume that's not the norm.

Really to sorry to hear you were so poorly. Hope you are on the mend and feeling better now? I am trying to take it as easy as possible but finding it hard with a very active 2 year old.

I am going to try have showers from here on in and defo won't risk any of the other things you can't do.

I think mine was only a small area as at my initial appointment they couldn't see any abnormal cells it's only after the biopsy they found CIN2. The doctor who did the Lletz said it was a specific area they were told to remove and that it may not even contain any abnormal cells as these could have been removed with the biopsy. All quite confusing tbh!

Thanks @quietlyspoken08 Yeah sounds like yours was quite a mild lletz (if one can say that about such a thing) On mine even I could see where the bad cells were. Hopefully it means you'll be mended very very soon.

Supposed to be having ivf in December/january... thinking that's gone to pot :(

Hopefully your two y/o can entertain themself! I'm finding it hard to sit still even without having kids. Might try get into embroidering?! Thanks for your kind reply and wishing you all the best Flowers

Hi OP, how are you doing?

I've just advance searched LLETZ after having mine on Fri. No bleeding or pain at all so far which seems strange but can see pps saying things happened days later 😯

Hope you are fully recovered now, your experience was awful.

I had this procedure 6 weeks ago. It was recommended to shower. My discharge stopped after about 4 weeks. I got a bath with just warm water in it after 5 weeks, after I had stopped wearing pads. When it got to 6 weeks I got a hot bath with bubbles but was still mindful how long I was in. Hope this helps x
