Morning everyone.
My GP surgery has attempted to fit a Mirena coil twice in the last couple of weeks but unfortunately this hasn't been successful. It sounds like they just physically haven't been able to get past my cervix. I am now being referred to gynae to have it fitted, but wondered if anyone else has had this experience and if so what they were able to do differently at the hospital?
When I asked the Dr they just advised that they always manage to get it in and that they will have access to things like local anaesthetic injections, but this just makes me concerned that the device will be forced in which doesn't sound great! The fitting hasn't failed because I have been unable to tolerate the pain, but instead because they can't physically get it in, and I'm not sure how that will suddenly change.
I have endometriosis and really need some kind of hormonal contraceptive to control this. I was on the combined pill for years and got on with it really well, but have had a number of cervical errosions in the last 5 years which are likely linked, so the Mirena does feel like the sensible option, especially as the hormones will be localised rather than running through the whole system like they would with other options.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
