Cysts/ovarian cancer?

I understand no one is doctors on here but I'd just like to know if anyone has experienced anything similar please.

I'm 24 and have always had bad periods but since January they have turned awful and caused me to have horrendous pain.

I had been to the doctors a few times trying to argue a case that I may have endometriosis but got dismissed every time.

A few days ago I wasn't on my period but had incredible pain where my ovaries are and felt a lump. Went to the doctors who got me in for an urgent ultrasound yesterday.

The results have come back today and my GP has told me they have found masses on my ovaries. Due to my age he said it is quite unusual and are referring me for urgent scans at the hospital but he made me aware there is a chance it could be cancer.

I don't really have many people I can talk to so just wondered if anyone had a similar experience they would be willing to share? I'm trying to stay positive until I go back to the hospital but I know it's going to be a long weekend and it just seems hard at the moment.

Sorry for the essay x

A very different experience to yours but my GP sent me for a mammogram for suspected breast cancer when I found a very painful lump. I had to wait for several days for the appointment and was terrified and bursting into tears every five minutes. It was just a benign cyst, but the wait was awful and scary..
I’m currently waiting for a blood test to rule out ovarian cancer, despite minimal symptoms, so I have a small idea about how you’re feeling.
I’m sorry you’re so worried. Hopefully it will just be cysts. Good luck

Hey there, try and keep calm. It is a terrible situation but it might be nothing. And even if it is cancer, they have found it and can take steps.
My doctors found a lump on one of my ovaries shortly after I gave birth. A quick operation to take it out, and it was NOT cancer. It was a benign lump something that had just started growing there. How gross is that?! But out and done with. No lasting effects, just a few small scars.
Keep your fingers crossed, and best of luck.

Stay calm. I'm not a medical doctor, but have had ovarian cysts and know they're not unusual.

I was in the US when I first had them and even with "good" health insurance, it was unaffordable to find out what was going on. So they kept growing and bursting (incredibly painful--wonder if that's what your problem is). There were lumps by the time I got a job in Europe and could find out what was happening.

Could it be cancer? Of course there's a risk. But you have ALWAYS had painful periods, so it makes sense that you have some kind of long-term problem.

You haven't mentioned any other symptoms (like problems with digestion or fatigue, etc) so I do hope that this turns out to be about some non-cancer problem with your ovaries like I had.

Please let us know how you get on and good luck. I hope you're about to get an answer to what your problem has been all these years.

Hey, I'm 31 and am going through similar. They found a 16cm mass in July and I'm only just having it removed in November due to the strikes and just general nhs overwhelm.

Once you've had a scan (I had ultrasound and mri - which wasn't as scary as I though) they may send you for blood tests as there's tumour markers in your blood for ovarian cancer. Mine were at the highest end of "normal" so I'm finding that reassuring as much as possible.

There's a cancer thread on here where the people are wonderful with lots of experience.
