Hysterectomy and dreading it

I will be getting a date soon, for TAH.
I'm dreading it all.

The surgery, hospital, pain, stitches, recovery, what my body will look like afterwards ( I've already had breast cancer and am covered in scars!).

Someone tell me it isn't all that bad.

I have no choice but to have this surgery.

Thanks.

Had TAH, BSO, omentectomy and cervix removed 5 years ago. Had to have the op also. Was 47. Once recovered felt the best I had in years - and I thought I felt ok before! You will be fine. Good luck ❤️

I had this too, with no choice. Many women really wish for a hysterectomy for many years, and are delighted when they have one. Having one suddenly thrust upon me with no choice when I was 36, I felt completely aggrieved. Right up until the surgery day I thought it might be stopped and not go ahead. Woke up from anaesthetic in tears and cried and cried.

But, I have barely any scarring, only a tiny mark inside my belly button, because it was keyhole. Other scars disappeared totally. I still have slight tenderness to one side, but apart from that you would never know. It's nice to not have periods too, although it's a bit confusing as I approach menopause.

I took it very very easy afterwards and enlisted lots of family help. Don't rush back to work. I was in pain but it was well managed and after a week or so I was mobile again. Stock up on treats and plan your binge watching. Good luck!

My friend said exactly the same when she had to have a hysterectomy. Was relatively easy, and now she feels amazing~

I had one 3 years ago. Again no choice - cancer. Other than being a bit sore for a few days afterwards with an enormous swollen tummy, it was fine. I was taking gentle walks within a week and I have no scars at all bar a couple of keyhole marks.

How are they doing it? My cousin recently had both ovaries and uterus removed by keyhole surgery. Four teeny tiny little scars externally. Two nights in hospital.worst thing was the gas they use to blow up the abdomen so the surgeon could see what they were doing.

I don't know anyone who has had a hysterectomy and regretted it.

I hope it goes well for you Flowers

i’ve had both breast cancer and hysterectomy as well.

The recovery from hysterectomy isn’t like the horror stories you hear from the past. The surgery is keyhole (in most cases) and recovery is quite quick. I was off work for six weeks, but doing normal things quite quickly. You just have to be careful you don’t walk too far, lift anything too heavy, avoid the hoovering etc. Basically, as long as you listen to your body, and don’t overdo it, you’ll be fine.

My hysterectomy (43 at the time) was MILES easier than people often say. One night in hospital, four teeny (<5mm) scars. Up and walking outside in a few days, fully back to normal and back at work in a demanding job inside 6 weeks. My biggest problem was not being able to fit in my trousers for about three months.

Thanks all.
Hopefully it will go okay.
Still dreading it!
